Well, actually works. I've just checked by removing the nvram file and leaving at least the first line of the patch (don't know what the others are doing beside speeding up the boot process, which I don't care much), the game boots fine.

I doesn't work anymore if I forcibly set in test menu a different communication mode and then reset, at which point the game doesn't boot, so I've to delete again the nvram file and restart.

Ah, thanks! It does work. I re-read your post and understand now what you were saying. I must have first deleted my NVRAM files and then removed the patches and tried to run the game to see whether the patches were still needed. But this caused the game to produce an NVRAM file in non-satellite mode. So in any subsequent boot, the ROM patch was having no effect because that bad NVRAM file kept getting reloaded.
