I noticed this one. It usually crashes at the credits. There's also quite a bit of slowdown when drones wreck on the final turn of the Beginner course. And ECA slows down tremendously on the third level. Like you said though, setting a higher clock speed in the emulator fixes both these issues.

Speaking of texture sampling: I noticed that for every contour textures the original hw does something that's usually called edge-padding (here's an example). Basically all that does is replicating the pixels in outward direction from the edge of the opaque part of the texture by 1 pixel. Replicating the RGB values in the transparent area (where alpha = 0) makes the bilinear filter behave so that we don't see that black or white border, that is the transition color from RGBA (where A = 1) to RGBA (where A = 0).

I emulated that in pixel shader albeit without the bilinear filtering effect and works really well, however when I tried to implement bilinear filtering I encountered too many problems and gave up (and I remember to have removed the code as well :( ).

A viable solution could be doing that in software before sending the texture to the GPU sampler (and the shaders) so that bilinear doesn't kick in with all the troubles I encountered.


You'll probably find the lack of mipmapping or the fact mipmaps are heavily weighted to give more aliasing hides this error on the model 3

excellent work guys! the emu is finally very close to perfection :) are you guys think that it's a good time to consider a jit compilation to improve the emu performance?
