We're not translating PowerPC instructions to native x86 like a JIT compiler would (this would offer a big performance boost for Supermodel). Instead, each PowerPC instruction is interpreted, and requires up to hundreds of instructions to execute on your PC to simulate the same behavior. Add to that a fairly complex 3D graphics engine and multiple co-processors (sound, music, drive board), and you can see why it's a demanding emulator.
MAME is also pretty demanding when it comes to 3D games. Most likely, I dosen't matter on how fast your CPU is, It will tax your processor big time. On my i3-4170 @ 3.7 Ghz runs Supermodel really great as well as my new Geforce GT 1030 GPU. Some MAME 3D PCB drivers on my system doesn't run that smooth except San Francisco Rush(I experienced some slight slowdown in the games select track menu). Games such as Ridge Racer for the most part you'll need a beast. It seems that Supermodel is becoming accurate with it's New 3D Engine. I can tell because the the original engine is less detailed than the real hardware and i think is suitable for those who have less capable CPUs around 2.4 Ghz. The new engine is almost identical to the real thing for faster CPU's ranging at 3 Ghz+. On the latest SVN versions i never have any slowdowns ever. I'm not sure why these problems happen. Maybe a debug version i guess?

You're right about the accuracy. Ian has done some incredible work. I'd have never gotten it this far.

Re: performance issues, it appears to be AMD cards that are most affected by some of Ian's new code.

I came back to test 757 and a newer 759 I saw online. Even worse performance. I read Bart's recent comment about the AMD cards so I should of known going in. Very sad I can't benefit from the new revisions, but I understand you guys don't have the original SEGA developers to get help from and you are doing all of this by yourself. So for the very fact I can even boot these games up on my PC, thank you guys, Ian and Bart, for your hard work. Hope I can benefit from the new quad rendering and go back to 60fps locked gameplay soon. Otherwise, I'm saying on r732.

Totally Agreed with you.
For months people discuss as well about Naomi.
They are more concentrated on consoles now and makes every arcade game more poor as before.
They need is more people.
Haze is the only ONE i can see being working hard on this mongus protections. ;)

Happy New Year and thanks, you forget to change the svn number in the first thread. ;)
I have problems with this new version, roms are missing, i already try to put non-merged sets and still missing files, i just extract the dat from mame and arcade and they are the same thing.
If someone was able to release a especific dat to have all the sets correctly.
Games.xml should read crlmampro and it doesn´t, it tells me to update games.dat and it doesn´t appear in the menu to scan. Sadly it doesn´t work. :(
Spindizzi need to check mame or this is a nother way to read better the prototypes.

hi
with this revision, you need to manually add missing roms to your set so now, some of rom sets are no more insync with mame set
see here for the changes to make
http://www.supermodel3.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1610#p15645
you can check all your rom set comparing crc with their Inside games.xml
hope this help

Adding epr-19338a.bin to lemans24.zip just made me this.
After that the rom runs Dirt Devils. :(

I join the content list of the modified roms

in lemans24 the official rom for ffb is epr-18261.bin but not working now
there is a trick to have ffb working with this game by replacing this rom with epr-19338a.bin. In this case you must edit yourself your games.xml

use of normal rom: (untouched games.xml file)
Code: Select all
      <!-- Spindizzi notes : original Driveboard from model2 hardware -->
      <!-- Not working ATM - Commands don't correspond -->
      <region name="driveboard_program" stride="1" chunk_size="1">
        <file offset="0" name="epr-18261.bin" crc32="0x0C7FAC58" />
      <!-- Driveboard program from scud - Can be a replacement from original model2 z80 program -->
      <!-- I think Model3 driveboard hardware acts exactly like Model2 driveboard hardware (same irq, same memory mapping, same commands etc...)  -->
      <!-- This is why we can exchange micro program (rom) in Supermodel to have ffb in lemans24 -->
      <!-- Simply comment and uncomment - for test purpose only -->
      <!--
        <file offset="0" name="epr-19338a.bin" crc32="0xC9FAC464" />
      -->
      </region>

use of the trick:
Code: Select all
      <!-- Spindizzi notes : original Driveboard from model2 hardware -->
      <!-- Not working ATM - Commands don't correspond -->
      <region name="driveboard_program" stride="1" chunk_size="1">
      <!--
        <file offset="0" name="epr-18261.bin" crc32="0x0C7FAC58" />
      -->

        <file offset="0" name="epr-19338a.bin" crc32="0xC9FAC464" />

      </region>

if you have edited your games.xml file, respect the syntax, a commented line is between "<!--" and "-->". A misformed games.xml could have unpredictable result like the errors you have. Errors can also occur if the roms Inside your rom set do not match

And to answer you for the other thread, I haven't any contacts with anybody whose able to edit the content of the rom for dats, sorry

Thank you!
It was missing 2 roms on ecap in Arcade emulator but i found it online, how strange this 2 missing roms are not in the .zip and runs without it.
But in the database shows me they are in.
I told this before... ArcadeUI without MASH's MAMEINFO you are completly screwed, you can´t find anything.
Thank god UI is still alive.

Missing ones are... you can find by searching rom name.

The original roms are named as "b" in the end of each file, you can get this 4 online too.

Please send me the name roms of srally2, srally2p and srally2pa, they are missing.
Adding roms to this 3 games will give you a error and always runs srally2 instead.

epr-18261.bin - Not Avaliable yet.
Not interrested to change the code i will wait. :)
