The Ocean Hunter slowness in intro

Postby anchounio » Thu Apr 06, 2017 1:38 am

This has always been a Supermodel issue for me. This game runs perfect in the last SVN versions, but the introduction is still too slow (the music runs faster and ends before the introduction scenes are finished)
I'm running it in an i5 2500 cpu, 16 gb of RAM and a NVIDIA GTX 760

Do I need a more powerful PC or is it a Supermodel issue ?

Just check how it runs in the original hardware
Intro starts at 4:00

If your frame rate is 60 FPS, it's as good as it's going to get for now. These are timing issues with the emulation and no fix is forthcoming yet.

Try using a higher PPC frequency, maybe 65Mhz and see if it improves for you.

I tried different frequencies but it made no difference with this game. It always slowdown in certain moments of the intro, for example when the giant shark (leviathan) attacks the ship (4:20 in the original video intro I shared in my first message). The music ends before the scenes are over, and I think my PC is powerful enough to run everything in Supermodel properly. This issue has always been there.

Changing ppc frequency worked in some games like daytona USA 2, but nothing change in this one. The shark attacking the ship is always a slow scene, must be because of the bug Bart said.

BTW, this is only happening during the intro of the game. Gameplay runs perfectly so it must be considered a minor issue I guess :)
But Supermodel is so close to perfection now that I felt I had to remind this.

Intel Core i5 2500 3,3 gz
Nvidia Geforce GTX 760

I open the game with this command: supermodel .\roms\oceanhun.zip -input-system=rawinput
The resolution I've set the game is 640x480 (configured in supermodel.ini)
No more parameters.

Have you tried it with the new engine? Add -new3d to your command line.

Do you get the same slow down with the legacy engine?
