Who needs SCUD Race on consoles since we have emulation?

Postby ferrarifan » Wed Jul 04, 2018 11:18 pm

I like to say something. Yes we prefer our favorites at home but i don't think SEGA will ever release these games while MAME,Supermodel3,Model 2 Emulator,Demul,FBA,and more are still out there. I was thinking oh for crying out loud, emulation is our best hope. Hell,i'd rather play Lucky & Wild(One of my favorites) on MAME rather than waiting for 1000 years just to see the game ported to Consoles and DLC. I mean come on guys. Thank god for MAME and other Arcade emulation software because we can enjoy games especially some arcade games never released on platforms. Yes i know the Supermodel and Non Supermodel fans in the arcade scene wanted there favorites on current gen consoles.

I mean really. Just build a fast PC or buy an aftermarket Gaming PC, Download the emulator and the ROMS and enjoy. Is that simple. I have no complaints playing SCUD Race on my PC. I still enjoyed it to this day. Some gamers rather play games on real hardware(I actually only emulate arcade games, not console hardware since i own a bunch of consoles)because they think is illegal and glitchy. For me personally, I never use PCSX2,Dolphin,Demul(I only play arcade games like the Naomi)and other game console emulation because i already own the real hardware.

So what do you guys think? Should we keep complaining or turn the page to move on?

personally I don't like console emulation, I think it'is just an easy way for piracy.

But arcade is a different thing, cabinets numbers are very very limited compared to consoles, many units are literally destroyed every year as arcades closes, and we have all kind of issues, like suicide battery, faulty cabs, games cabs and spares that are really hard to find and very pricey etc.
A normal person can only hope to own one cabinet, maybe two...

So arcade emulation is the preservation of history, and I'll always give all my respect and gratitude to all the people in the arcade emulation community, that invest their time and money for saving a (huge) part of videogaming history and give everyone a chance to still play the games of our childhood.

Of course I'd like official console ports by Sega, for example I'm waiting since 1997 for Scud Race on console, I waited for it on Saturn, Dreamcast (where strangely never happened) and so on.
After X360 I gave up, but around that time Supermodel happened, and now that I finally have a good pc I can play Scud Race and all the other wonderful Model 3 games almost every day :D

Who knows, maybe in future Sega will use the work of Bart, Ian and the others for their official products (and if it happen I hope it will end in a better way than ElSemi Model 2, with just few official releases and an abandoned emulator as a result), meanwhile let's enjoy Supermodel as it evolve to reach perfection :)

It's Sega's fault as usual.
For years was nothing and now it's remember to save old games.
Waiting...

That's what i'm talking about.:) That's true. Arcades are dying because we have the new console technology that takes over and Arcades nowadays are becoming less popular in the states since we have PS4 and XBONE(Except Japan since is widely popular now ). You're right about one thing, Arcade operators experienced a lot of issues with technical problems to keep the game from booting for example. Some PCB's like the SEGA Hikaru is difficult to repair due to the board is designed poorly. I think Emulation is a key answer to save the Arcade industry so that can't stop. It should keep going. Plus,Manufactures lost most of the source codes and never back up software which that's a big problem. I'm glad MAME is making progress to keep our childhood alive.

Most likely,SEGA isn't going to listen our request. But, no need to worry about it anymore. :)

If they ever did make a console release (especially if it were a Model 3 compilation), I'd buy it. I liked the PS360 release of Daytona USA, and the Model 3 library deserves to be widely available and enjoyed.

At least I was able to get refunds for my pre-orders of Super GT and Daytona 2 for Dreamcast. I pre-ordered them (along with Virtua Fighter 3tb) in 1998, and was forced to concede that they'd never be a thing in 2001.
