Front/rear balance via -balance no longer used?

The audio code was updated some time ago to more accurately reflect the actual channels present and BalanceFrontRear/BalanceLeftRight were added. It looks like "Balance" is deprecated? I'd like to update the command line options if so.
EDIT: never mind, it is used after all in SCSP.cpp. But isn't this somewhat redundant?
