Which video card works with soft 15Khz

Postby Sideshowbob » Mon Jan 30, 2012 12:10 am

Ok, so title pretty much says it all.

Want to build a new "rig" to be able to run supermodel games at 60 FPS.

I will be running it on a arcade screen (15Khz).......so I was wonder has anyone got soft 15Khz running so as to play these games at 60 FPS?

If so, can you please advise what your video card is.

I intend to use a 1155 chipset M/B with a 2500K CPU.

Thanks in advance :D

Wow, that was fast.

Why do you say that?

So you would recommend Nvidia cards?

I am sure some ATI users will jump down my throat, but the prevailing view is that while the cards themselves are competent, the driver support for them is - at best - questionable.

All manufacturers suffer problems sometimes. Compatibility, strange bugs etc and while you shouldn't necessarily judge a company by the mistakes it makes; rather how they they rectify them; ATI seem to make far more mistakes than Nvidia and always seem behind the curve in addressing them. How many changelogs see fixes for ATI cards? Answer: an alarming amount.

How such a large company can be so ambivalent about quality control is beyond me. I'm surprised they're still in business.

Well, I would suggest posting your question here. That soft 15khz adaptor software is definitely the right road to take, though. The author got a GTX 460 to work fine, which would be ok for Supermodel - it's essentially a vanilla 560, but louder, hotter and more power-hungry.

Thanks for that.

I have already posted there..... The author has stopped any more development so has no idea about newer cards.

I see a couple of guys got the ATI Radeon 4870 X 2 to run fine. Looking around the net it looks like It's faster than the GTX 460.

I know you guys aren't impressed with ATI cards, but anyone know if it works ok?

Thanks again

Well, here is a thread from about 18 months ago: http://www.clunk.org.uk/forums/hardware ... -woes.html

The OP is me. Now, there's a few things I should explain...

1) Yes, it's my own fault for buying a Dell with a proprietory, locked down BIOS. I should have known better.
2) In spite of me saying I had found a resolution, when I cold-booted again, the problem re-occurred.
3) The problem actually was that the card was incompatible with my (I think) P38 (or was it 45?) chipset and needed a BIOS upgrade, which, of course, I couldn't get.

I ended up trading it for a GTX 260, which worked first time. The 4870x2 is a beast, but it comes with a risk. The risk is that it's supported - and I mean that in the loosest possible terms - by ATI.
