Just joined here. Currently trying to rip the textures and models from the lost world Jurassic park arcade game. I noticed someone else did it in this thread and trying their method. Bit confused with renderdoc, I'll update with my progress.

I recently joined for the very same reason. If you've made any progress feel free to post an update. I haven't tried the RenderDoc method just yet.

[quote="Bart"You can dump textures (I think code in the legacy engine exists to do that) or 2D tiles the games load into memory but who knows what might be stored in ROM.[/quote]

I cannot figure out how to rip the textures using the -dump-textures command. I simply don't know where to type it (I'm a noob, sorry). I'm using a UI instead of the original application.

You can't use the UI. This is a command line option. Read the Help section of the main page for an explanation of how to use the command line. Alternatively, you can modify your Supermodel.ini to include:

Code: Select all
DumpTextures=1

And it will do it every time you quit.

^^ Thank you. Adding it to the ini file worked fine. I got the textures.

I'll still check the tutorials for using the command line instead of UI - as I suspect Renderdoc won't capture from the UI exe.

So, the update with my progress... Theres none, I tried to use renderdoc with the emulator but I cant get a way to capture the game. I was stuck on that which I immediately gave up on it.
Also mind pointing me on what the legacy engine is cause. I'm a bit confused, especially with the ini file since my Super model 3 copy doesnt have it, soo please help me.

I can relate. I have not been able to get renderdoc to capture from any application on my computer.

Does your Supermodel version have a folder called Config? Inside that folder there's a text file called Supermodel. (On my computer the ini file does not show the .ini extension - windows simply says it's a text file. But it is the ini file).

The legacy engine is a version without any user interface - you have to run it from the windows cmd.exe (it's basically like DOS if you've ever used that). I used this page to figure it out. However i still didn't get renderdoc to work.

In Supermodel.ini, set:

Code: Select all
New3DEngine=0

To fall back to the legacy engine.

There is a config file and an ini extension. I had another program have ini in the name so I was confused whether it was different or not.

I managed to figure it out that my copy was a legacy engine. Im so dumb.... The renderdoc for ripping the models is very vague cause it doesnt explain the capture part, since I couldn't capture anything which I need specific file to do that. I managed to get some textures, so thank you Bart.

Just enable file extensions in Explorer. It's the first thing I do on any Windows install.

I just noticed when dumping occurs. Some textures are left out, like the pteranodon textures in the first area don't get their textures dumped. Does the dump texture option select a certain group of textures for dumping and leave some behind?
