Can u Guys do us all a favor???

Postby Groni » Tue Sep 27, 2011 2:32 pm

Hey Guys,

I have been watching this forum from day 1 now, and every day there are new posts about, slowness and graphical bugs!

First of all, it is ok to post bugs and slowdowns that happens, cause this will help Bart to find and fix the problem. But please can you stop to

make posts like "you have to fix this", "mister x´s fps is higher than mine, it must be an error in the emulator", "when will the new version come out"

Or these Video compares from CPU Board Videos on Youtube that will try to tell that Bart has to spend more time fixing this cause CPU Board is so much faster!

This is Barts Hobby, and it won´t speed up the progress! This will have more of an negative effect. As a programmer I know about burnouts or simply no mood

to continue a project, cause people bugging me every day!!

Enjoy the fact that all the legendary Games like Daytona 2, Scud Race, StarWars are now playable in almost good performance!! Do you remember the first

Mame trys to get Star Wars to run??

So please give Bart the time he needs to turn this Supermodel to a legendary Emulator! I guess you all wanne see a Version 1.0 someday!

Time will tell! So keep in Mind...............Support is the Key and Bugging is the End...

Sincerely

Groni

I think I will have to start a "Known Emulation Problems" thread to sort out bugs in the emulation (which, because Supermodel is still in an alpha stage, I don't quite consider to be bugs with the program itself), from bugs in Supermodel (that cause unintended behavior apart from the emulation -- such as input problems, some audio issues, and most important of all, actual crashes or lock-ups that bring down the entire program).

Some emulation problems that occur very infrequently (like the seemingly incorrect sound effects in Daytona that were mentioned in another thread) would be useful to know about, and in those cases, nailing them down with a save state that can be examined would be nice. I will have to let people know which such problems are good candidates for this sort of thing.

Thanks for your patience, guys. I'll try to make a thread either this weekend or later next week.

For anyone not familiar with how Star Wars looked on Mame, here's an old video I made of it running on my previous PC.

I think you'll all agree, things have changed for the better...
(Mame is the daddy when it comes to 2D games though)

Hey, don't discount 3D games in MAME, the Tekken games, Street Fighter EX games and Virtua Racing are almost spot on. With more work the Ridge Racer games will be too and lots of others.

Anyway, I agree a few stickies will help control the "bug reports" but hey, it's a new forum so there's always a settling in period.

Hm Virtua Racing isn't perfect though... tried that yesterday. Although perhaps my rom is outdated. Although with sdlmame I notice performance issues in the Mac version compared to the Windows version, so perhaps it runs fine on Windows.

I realized Virtua Racing is uncannily beautiful, what a fantastic looking and sounding game. The engine sounds are perfect.. I also love seeing the pidgins on the starting grid at the beginning of the race. I think the flat shaded polygons work so well because they really perfected the shadowing and colors.

You're right, 3D is getting better all the time in Mame and there are some very impressive examples of this. However, until the day that Ridge Racer is emulated at full speed in it, I'd heartily recommend checking out VivaNonno, a Namco system 22 emulator that can play Ridge Racer 2 and Rave Racer at full speed on fairly old systems - I could get both games running at 60 fps on my old Pentium 4.

Yeah, there's a certain aesthetic quality to Virtua Racing that gives it a timeless feel. I think it still looks great even by today's standards.

Virtua Racing's flaw is the glitchy draw distance.. I'm pretty sure the PS2 release (Sega Ages label, only released in Japan) fixed that. Will try that tonight.

+1 THIS!

Viva Nonno is a blessing. Can't tell you how much I appreciate being able to run Rave and Ridge all those years ago with full speed. It's such an impressive emu. The only thing I am sad about, is that there is no force feedback, in Viva nonno and the author has gone AWOL. So the chances of further development are slimmer than me hitting the MegaBall Lotto!

Indeed mame is getting better at 3D and that is good news. But there will probably never be any force feedback support in mame so that's kind of a bummer :( Would love to be able to play some of the Crusin or Rush games with FFB.

I have made a new account, just to thank Bart on the great job.
I have always dreamt of playing daytona usa 2 on my pc,in crisp graphics, listening to the great sounds of the game, without interruptions from other arcade cab's sounds.
A big thank you to Bart. :D
