I used to use GeForce cards exclusively for MAME etc using soft15khz on low res monitors but when I came across groovymameand calamity's ATI drivers I picked up a Radeon HD 3850 and never looked back.

The great benefit of these drivers is with MAME you can get accurate refresh rates meaning no tearing/sound skipping which requires some fairly intrusive work arounds using soft15khz. Otherwise they are the same as soft15khz but support much more powerful cards without the need for an EDID dongle.

They are both still actively being developed, support some powerful cards without the need for extra hardware and the support forum is great too and calamity is a really friendly, helpful guy.

For the record I've had better luck with this card and PC games/Emulators requiring 3D accelleration than my old GeForce 7xxx series card.

Groovymame won't help then but calamity's ATI drivers will if you want a better graphics card without having to get an EDID dongle. The most soft15khz can handle without one is the 7xxx series geforce which I don't think is up to the task.

Just checked out you video...impressive.

I didn't think that card would be powerfull enough to run supermodel.

Does it run Dayton 2 & Daytona PE at 60 FPS??

I certainly dont want to get the EDID dongle.

Not sure how to setup that calamity's ATI drivers. Didn't make much sense to me.

Are you running a socket 775 M/B?

Off to catch so ZZZZZZ's. will check back in the morning.

P.S I have a similar project to you. I'm restoring a Scud Racer. I've had all the plastic sides repaired and painted (cost over $1000). New tube and Dual Res monitor chassis. Running ultimarc's UHID analogue-Digital interface.

Plays real nice.

One other thing.....can you play sega touring cars at full speed (FPS), on Model 2. on the second lap, mine plays very very slowly (only running a single core CPU.

Thanks for all your help

Update....

I'm a bit retarded...After reading the file at the bottom, I realized that I had to download one of the Catalyst, for the appropriate
card.

Looks fairly simple....a bit like soft 15Khz and and quick res combined???

Looks very promising

Ok, got calamity's ATI drivers working fine.

What resolution do you run for your games "Retro Repair"?

I tried them at 320 X 240 and the resolution was not right. for example when I started Street Fighter 2, bits of the text are missing pixels!!

Also, if I changed my front end "Mala" to the same resolution the text in the games selection box was very hard to read....it's much easier to read at 640 X 480 even though it's interlaced and it flickers....any thoughts?

But I have to admit that the Ati driver is very easy to use, and looks a lot more compatible with newer video cards compared with soft 15Khz.

with Catalyst 9.3 below, after HD4890...... do you know how far it is supported. ie HD6XXX or HD7XXX??

Catalyst 9.3: ATI Radeon 9500, 9550, 9600, 9700, 9800, X300,
X550, X600, X700, X740, X800, X850,
X1050, X1200, X1300, X1550, X1600,
X1650, X1800, X1900, X1950, HD 2350,
HD 2400, HD 2600, HD 2900, HD 3200,
HD 3300, HD 3400, HD 3410, HD 3450,
HD 3550, HD 3570, HD 3600, HD 3610,
HD 3690, HD 3730, HD 3750, HD 3800,
HD 3830, HD 3850, HD 3870, HD 4230,
HD 4250, HD 4350, HD 4550, HD 4570,
HD 4580, HD 4650, HD 4670, HD 4730,
HD 4750, HD 4800, HD 4850, HD 4870,
HD 4890, etc.

Thanks for all the info to date :D

update......found out on forums that only supported to HD 4XXX series.

What CPU are you using....I thought I saw E8400...but I can't find that anywhere now??

Am I going crazy or did I see this somewhere else?

What are your specs please.....and can you run Daytona 2 at 60 FPS

Thanks for all your help

Specs are as folows:

C2D E8400
2GB DDR2
Radeon HD 3850
XP Pro set up to run Hyperspin as shell

This runs Daytona mostly at 60fps, just with the occasional pause. This is an emulation issue though which wil be fixed in the next version I believe. Scud race runs at a constant 60fps.

I think Calamity's drivers will support faster cards, they are just not tested yet. I can't guarentee compatability with supermodel with any other card than the 3850 either since it seems some have issues.

You have not set it up right. PM me for MAME since it's not relevent to supermodel.

Hi Retro repair.

I've been having a look at Grooveymame.

I can't seem to find a complete "how to" write up...do you know of one?

All I can seem to find is a Groovymame.exe, which I'm guess I paste of the "standard" MAME file (if renamed), or just point Mala to groovymame.exe?

Thoughts?
