Scud Race Plus: Need to change region

Postby Jiterdomer » Mon Sep 26, 2011 6:41 pm

When I go to the Test Menu in Scud Race Plus, but I noticed that the cursor skips through options and suddenly, the cursor speds up! By the time I went to the Game Assignments and try to go to region to change from Japan, the selection skips from Japan to Japan like someone puts an autofire on buttons! It doesn't happen on regular Scud Race

I don't think you can change the region in Scud Race Plus through the menus. A lot of games will show the region in the menu but won't let it be changed. There might be a code. AFAIK, Scud Race Plus was never released outside of Japan. It may be possible to find the region inside the NVRAM file (NVRAM/scudp.nv) using a hex editor...

Proves that you can change country to USA:
There was no American release of Scud Race Plus. Apparently, Sega never marketed this version outside of Japan, but it is possible to switch the country to "USA" and get "Sega Super GT Plus" which features everything from Scud Race Plus, but in the American format.

I'm having this very same problem. It's apparently an emulation glitch that also causes a few other games to have buggy service menus. When you change the region, it changes to "export" for a split second, then back to Japan.
Ah ha ha ha ha! (Ganondorf, SSBM.)

EDIT: I found how to change the region:

1. Set PowerPC frequency to 10 Mhz;
2. Boot up Scud Race Plus and let it load (it will take a while)
3. After it shows the first screen enter test menu;
4. The selection arrow will jump randomly between the options when you try to select but you will be able to select.

Also be wary that this game does not have inbuilt throttling and will speed up if you run it at more than 50 Mhz PPC it will run very fast at like 3x speed.

I think a complete core overhaul is needed.

In an unrelated note:
Is anyone lagging during the second attract screen where they feature a video clip of a red Lamborghini rushes through the Expert Course? (comes after the Super Beginner demonstration)

Yes that little bit of what looks like fmv....it was running very slow for me last night, thought It might have been a "deliberate" effect ie slow motion but I have tbh it didn't feel right!
