MIPS as a arcade CPU

Postby PowerPC300 » Sat Oct 20, 2018 8:44 pm

MIPS is a processor line developed by MIPS technologies inc. it is well known in the arcade industry as a main CPU for various arcade machines and workstations. in the arcades, midway (along with their TMS powered arcade boards) and atari used boards with a MIPS processor with 3dfx chips, the processor and graphics chips may vary, and some games may work a different revisions of boards , but can slow down due to the game not being meant for the particular revision. other companies also used MIPS as well, such as namco for their system 23 line.
Sega has made interesting hardware back in those days, the model 1, naomi, and don't forget the all custom hikaru!
