So the first version of supermodel was officially released on the 1st of April 2011? Luckily it wasn't an April fools lol
Well happy 10 years :)
Bart did you ever think the emulation would get this far?

If my memory is correct, the first release didn't support sound and joystick input, but I was very excited.
Thank you to all the developers who have evolved so much.

The thing I'm most thrilled about is the ability to play Daytona USA 2 pretty much arcade-perfect at home, since it's becoming harder to find in actual arcades these days.

Thank you so much to Bart and everyone else who made it possible :D

I made a sort of brief history of the development of my renderer.

The work of the new3d renderer is built upon the Bart's work. It always amazed me how far they got with emulation based upon nothing but some pdf found on the real3d website which had a brief description of the API.

Yep, you are indeed correct. I got to be a playtester (thanks Bart! :D ) for the next version of Supermodel, before it got publicly released, that featured sound and working joystick inputs. This video of mine HERE from 9 years ago was the very first ever video of Supermodel running Scud Race with working sound.

(I was pretty awful at the game back then...)

Edit: Oh and Happy Birthday Supermodel BTW!

I'm a bit sad I didn't post an update to the What's New page but I have to keep a low profile. I was hoping to put together a video but never got around to it. Wanted to borrow some music I thought would fit for a great montage showing off the emulator but can't get in touch with the creator. I'll figure it out at some point :)

Supermodel is actually 18-19 years old. Hard to pin down the exact birth date since Stefano Teso, Ville Linde, and I all began independently and then consolidated our efforts in 2003. We communicated on a private email list and prior to that, directly. I've still got most of those emails. The CVS repo still exists on Sourceforge. I just checked it out :) I wonder if I could get it to build on Windows... That might be a fun blast from the past: Supermodel 2004 Edition. It has both an OpenGL and Direct3D renderer. I should also find my 2D-only DOS version. I probably still have it somewhere. It would require DJGPP to compile and it had a really pretty text mode GUI debugger.

Huge thanks to everyone for the love and support, and all the countless man-hours contributed to Supermodel's continued development. Here's to at least another 10 strong years.

Ian: those archival photos of your engine's progress are really cool. As a follower of many retro-computing channels on YouTube, I would love to put together a well-produced technical video about Sega Model 3 internals someday. Maybe someone could help us produce one. Even better if we could get the Pro-1000 emulation working. I would like to investigate that at some point this year as well.

Pro-1000 emulation would be very cool. I did give it a shot but only got so far. Not far enough for games/demos to run. I think it would be easy to do. If you had access to a real device I'd just write a dummy aspi.dll that would just capture the traffic between the device and host. Trouble is I've not even seen pics of a working device. Maybe none are left in the wild.

I've been meaning to write the guy who supplied me with the SDK but I don't think any devices exist anymore else he'd have mentioned it. Unfortunately, it is apparently standard operating procedure for equipment used as part of defense contracts to be destroyed when no longer needed. There were some civilian entities that used the Pro-1000. I was told by someone that they recall selling one to the City of Philadelphia's planning department.

I bet we can emulate it without the real hardware. I just need to figure out how built the DLL that intercepts the SCSI commands. If we emulate the Pro-1000 itself (using the firmware that comes with the SDK), I have a feeling it will all come together quickly.
