About the display of Virtua Striker 2 (vs215o)

Postby you981 » Tue Feb 01, 2022 10:36 pm

I want to play the earliest version of Virtua Striker 2 (not 98 etc.) in Japanese. Currently, 3 types of Supermodels are registered. Of these, vs2 and vs215 can only be selected in English. Although vs215o is written in Japanese, information such as CPU POWER is always displayed in the upper right corner of the screen. Is there a way to get rid of this? Or is there a way to display vs2 and vs215 in Japanese?

Is it possible to change the region from the Service menu? Or perhaps there is a region code that must be entered?

thank you for your reply.

For vs2 and vs215, the region can only be changed for export and USA. Only Japan for vs215o.
I also looked into changing regions, but it says "Region controlled by program ROMs." So I'm wondering if I can change it.

So, I want to know how to turn off the display of CPU POWER, CPU FALSE, etc. on the upper right with just vs215o. Or is there a file to change the region of vs2 or vs215?
I used to play the Japanese version of Virtua Striker 2 at an arcade, so I don't think I can't do it.

If the "Region controlled by programs rom" thing is true for regular JP VS2, then that's unfortunate, since it seems like the JP version (both regular and the step 1.5 variant) are not dumped yet. And looks like vs215o is actually kind of prototype version of the game.

You would have to figure out where in the ROMs the region is controlled (or maybe there were separate ROM sets for different regions that have not been dumped) or edit the Supermodel source code and create a special build that identifies and disables the graphics you want gone. I wonder if these are error messages related to some diagnostic we are not emulating?

Virtua Striker 2 was a very popular game in Japan, so it's strange that it wasn't dumped. .. ..
I have the real thing (game board), but I can't suck it out. .. ..
It's so big that I'd be happy if I could play it on my PC in the same way.
Actually, there aren't many scenes where messages come out, so I put up with it in English and wait.

Interresting.
Both vs2 have export and usa versions and the older one only have japanese.
SEGA games are made in Japan and USA, but i never realized was made in Japan the first version, as we can see there is one flyer of Virtua Striker 2 in japanese version.
Maybe they had only the earlier version?
There is more Step versions in the '99 and '99.1?
There is more US/Japan/Export versions in both 3 versions?
More unfinished game protos?

Maybe both undumped games are the reason is missing here. Wow after this we had 14 versions. How many could exist in the future. :?
And for you981, there is only exclusive versions for both Japan and Export/USA only.
I didn´t see yet some Japan/USA in one single PCB for sale if they existed.

Virtua Striker 2 '98 --Step 1.5 --Japan exclusive
Virtua Striker 2 '98 --Step 2.0 --Japan exclusive
The regions of these two can be changed to USA and Australia.
■ VIRTUA STRIKER 2 '98 (Model 3 Step 1.5 / 2)
1. Go into "Game Assignment" in the Test mode.
2. Press the Service Button once for about 5 seconds.
3. Press the Service Button three times shortly.
4. Press the Service Button one time for about 5 seconds again.

Also, it is strange that VIRTUA STRIKER 2 '99 does not have a Japanese version.
I found the following information, so I tried but couldn't.
■VIRTUA STRIKER 2 ’99 (Model 3 Step 1.5/2)
1. Go into "Game Assignment " in the Test mode.
2. Press the Service Button once for about 5 seconds.
3. Press the Service Button three times shortly.
4. Press the Service Button one time for about 5 seconds again.
5. Press the Service Button twice shortly.
6. Press the Service Button once for about 5 seconds one more time.

I think it is strange that VIRTUA STRIKER 2 and VIRTUA STRIKER 2 '99 do not have a Japanese version. Can anyone change the region of 99 to Japan using the above method?
If you can't, I think it's likely that these two Japanese versions haven't been sucked out.
