I used to have this issue as well with older revisions of the emu. I can assure that in the latest versions the problem is gone and the games display with no strange screen edges.
Should the problem persist, back in the day, the makeshift workaround I came up with was:
1- creating/downloading a completely black jpeg image,
2 - setting the tool bar to "hide automatically",
3 - starting the emulator,
4 - viewing the black image via windows image viewer, then viewing it fullscreen
5 - hitting windows key
6 - selecting the already running emulator
7 - swapping to full screen
8- voilá! black borders!
I know it's a shitty way to solve the problem, but it did the trick for me untill I got my hands on a newer version of the emu.
