IIRC, I could only get it working with the demo executable in Windows 7, and I had to use 800x600 as the config resolution because it was 640x480 that caused it to crash, which makes my case the exact opposite of some other claims.

My biggest problem is that I can't get analog control to work. The deadzone is nil, so I constantly scroll up/down or left/right no matter what menu I'm in, and once I'm in a race, I can only steer to the left, and brake works but not accelerate. It's a freaking unplayable mess.

Seems like everyone's got a different story with this game :)

I surprisingly got analogue controls to work, but only with a NeGcon controller. In the game launcher options, it's just set to left and right, not X Axis or anything. Turning is a bit slower than Supermodel, though.

Sorry guys I should have said the problem I was having is that the official demo of the game came as a compressed file with a 32-bit installer and I couldn't extract it as it needed to be run on an old x86 OS. I've since found an alternative download and messed with it until I've got a version that now works.

I hex edited all the resolutions but although it looked nice at my native 2560x1440 the GUI was tiny and it made the game look stupid.

I'm sticking with the 800x600 resolution, it doesn't get loaded up all that often I just wanted it on my PC for archiving.

What's the verdict on how the PC game plays/looks comapred to the original in Supermodel? Is there a big difference or not?

Having just been playing a bit of Sega Rally 2 on the latest Supermodel SVN I can confirm it's a BIG difference Gary. The car models looks a lot more detailed in the proper arcade version and had a lot of fancy effects on the car windows which Supermodel is now truly starting to reflect (no pun intended). The PC version does still look great for such an old game and has the magic 60 fps so vital in keeping that arcade feeling intact when playing at home (and for that reason alone I think it's light years ahead of the Dreamcast version. The hidden 60 fps option in the DC still looked pretty unstable to me when I tried it out). The home versions do of course have the added bonus of all those lovely extra cars and tracks that weren't in the arcade version.

Dreamcast handled the night stages infinitely better than PC, though. I could actually play through 10 year championship on Dreamcast while seeing where I was going, which is a lot more than I could say for PC. You're right, though; neither had the detail or lighting quality of the arcade.

Thanks for the feedback guys, best stickign with the Supermodel arcade version then eh :)

Alex I just tried to get Sega Rally 2 working on DEMUL but all I get is a Sega Rally 2 Logo Screen with a large constantly flashing exclamation mark flashing in the middle of the screen!

Is DEMUL the right emulator for getting SR2 to work and if so what version are you using?

Just watched your SR2 video you put up on YouTube with the Celica so desperate to want to go play it again!

Didn't know there was a SVN 323 rls out, last one I used was SVN 303 that Bart kindly posted on here as the audio worked properly on that one.

Is there a newer version than SVN 303 that has fixed audio does anyone know?

Big thanks in advance :)

Trying changing the VMU to VMS in Config > Maple Device Manager.

Thanks Shekel - changed to VMS, the flashing exclamation mark still comes up but disappears after awhile and the game starts :)

Plays really slowly though, did I read there was a way to get 60 fps out of this somehow?????

Plays slowly for me but I don't have a gaming computer.

Code: Select all
Sega Rally 2 - Dreamcast - 60 FPS Mode:
At the title screen press Up, A, Down, Down, Left, Right, B, B, Down. A sound should confirm the code.

Must admit I've never tried running SR2 in DEMUL, this was on my actual Dreamcast. The 60 fps cheat for the Dreamcast was something I found out about from this very forum. I've just managed to find the thread about it and the link to the site with the cheat code here with a quick bit of Googleification. I think SVN 303 was the last one with stable sound, but I like SVN 323 because Sega Rally 2 just looks so purdy....
