32 or 64 bit OS

Postby Sideshowbob » Wed Jan 18, 2012 5:54 pm

Hi,

Is there any advantage running a 64bit OS. I normally run "Tiny" version of XP Pro 32bit. But as I'm about to upgrade to an i5/1155 chipset, I want to get the most out of it.

I prefer XP as I can totally hide everything to make it look like an Arcade machine.

Thoughts?

Thanks

All things being equal, 64-bit apps are a bit faster. If you're running just under 60 FPS, switching to 64-bit might well push you over. There are compatibility issues with older 32-bit drivers but it's unlikely you'll experience any problems.

Thanks Bart.

So Xp 64bit will be best? yes?

No huge advantage with windows7?

I prefer XP cause I know it insideout, and can easily hide all the "windows" features for that real Arcade experience.

Thanks

That I don't know... I've only ever used 64-bit Windows 7. I suppose it can't hurt to try XP. I would do some Googling to see if there are any driver-related problems.
