Audio Mixing issues

Postby Jiterdomer » Sat Mar 06, 2021 1:57 pm

Sega Model 3 audio hardware has a 5.1 surround channels for a 90s arcade PCB Hardware in terms of audio, here are the specs:

Sega Model 3 hardware specs:

Code: Select all
```Sound CPU : 16bits 68EC000 11.3Mhz
Sound chip : Yamaha SCSP/YMF-292F/"LAKE" FH1 128-step DSP x 2, MIDI interface, 16 bits 64 voices 4 channel, maximum of 16.5 Mbytes ROM, 64 PCM channels```
Meanwhile in Supermodel, all of the four channel surround audio were combined into one Stereo audio, which causes some audio imbalance for Step 2.1 games such as Daytona USA 2 and Le Mans ranging from crew chief's voice and the engine sounds. Will Supermodel can handle 5.1 audio surround sound feature to fix these issues for these games since Supermodel upgraded from SDL 1.2 to 2.0?
Don't think so, and you would need a 5.1 system anyway given each sound goes to its own channel. Right now, you can limit this problem using the balance command in the GUI.
It would require a rewrite of the audio system. Any volunteers? :)
