Help Needed: Model 3 PCB Owners

Postby Bart » Sat Sep 07, 2019 10:01 pm

If you own a working Model 3 PCB and are able to burn and replace EPROMs, I need help running some test code. I already have a patch ready to go for VF3 but could develop similar ones for just about any game, given the time.

This weekend I'm visiting my parents and tried unsuccessfully to run my patched VF3 ROMs on the real hardware. I'm not yet sure whether it's a problem with the code (works fine in emulation) or whether it is an issue with my EPROMs and sockets wearing out (it seems to be harder and harder to seat the ROMs in my board properly each time I do this).

It would really help us solve the frame timing issues if we could read out some values from actual games.

Try the ocean hunter. When I was messing with frame timing that was one of the few games I couldn't get to run properly. It's either skipping frames, or the frame time is too short and frames overlap. So for example it'll draw 6 frames in the space of 5.

This saturday I have the chance to play some model3 games in their original boards. These are Virtua Striker 2 '99 and Spikeout.
What do you need? Do you want videos of the introduction attrac-mode so that you can compare with supermodel3?

Here you have the full attract mode of Virtua Striker 2 '99. It might be helpful for timing emulation purposes:

Hi Bart,

I have some eproms : 9 x M27C322, 5 x 27C4096

Do you just need burn for the code? or also burn for graphics maskroms?

I have these games: Ocean Hunter, Star Wars, Lost World, Daytona Usa 2 (BOTE & PE), ScudRace (& Plus), Harley Davidson, Sega Rally 2.

Maybe in some of these games I have enough eproms, and I can do it in a few days ....

Bart patched the game code for vf3 to dump some of the frame timings
Would be super useful to do this for other games too ..

We don't need VF3, since I already have it. These tests would need to be run with different games. Particularly, Step 2.x games.

Tell me how many eproms i have to burn, and what should I do next when the game starts.
