Issue with GPDWin display

Postby andrewmackie » Sat Oct 24, 2020 2:20 pm

Hi Guys. Am the proud owner of a GPD Win 2. Great device so far but I’ve hit a snag and hoping somebody can help with a Supermodel issue.

Am running CoinOps Next 2 and Supermodel3 games won’t launch. If I run the emulator outside coinops it works fine. If I run a game bat the cmdline says there’s an OpenGL issue ("Unable to create an OpenGL display. No video mode large enough for 1200x1080.")

I’ve tweaked down the resolution to match the display in the ini but still no luck.

I've plugged an external monitor into the GPD and the games launch fine.

Coinops is running from microsd card.

Has anybody had luck running Model3 titles in Coinops on the GPD Win's 1280x720 screen?

Update: silly me. There were resolution parameters in each bat file. Changed those to 1280x720 and all good.

I have a GPD Win 2 (Core m3-7Y30 model) myself, and after lowering the PowerPC Frequency to 49-50, setting the resolution to 496x384, and throttling the CPU with ThrottleStop, most Model 3 games run well. There are a few slowdowns here and there, but if you find the handheld cheap, it's easily one of the best handheld consoles for the fact it is able to do Model 3 at all.
I remember back in middle school (2010-2011) dreaming of being able to play Harley-Davidson on the go, since I had a PSP that could run homebrew like the awesome CPS2 emu. Sadly the GPD Win 1's (which I also own) is too weak for Supermodel, as it has a low-end Atom z8700/8750 CPU, and I was gettin' less than 30 on Scud Race, with the PowerPC mhz at 30. :\ A JIT would probably resolve this. :D

How is Supermodel performing for you, Andrew? Would you also be able to tell me of any settings you changed for performance boosts?

Sorry for the late reply. I got frustrated with the GPD Win 2 (for reasons I can’t recall) but only last week picked the same model up on sale. Nothing I’ve tried since can match its portability and versatility for emulation. Grass I always greener but agree this device has proven itself to me.
