If I had the time to spare, I would love to try to get Model 2 emulation working in Supermodel but ElSemi is brilliant and the amount of effort he put into it was enormous. Will be some time before anyone duplicates that.

I'm still not very good but I had a successful run on the Forest Course last night:

Spectator Cam
Chase/Cockpit Cams

Any tips for improving my driving would be much appreciated :D

Hey Bart, can you get PCSX2 the PS2 emulator working on your PC? There's an arcade perfect port of the original Sega Rally that came as a bonus disc with Sega Rally 2006 on the PS2 that (bewildering) only ever came out in Japan. It might be a better alternative than the Saturn port which is still excellent though and which I *cough* shameless plug *cough* actually did a feature length review of recently on my YouTube channel

I'll check it out! But for now, my Sega Rally fever has subsided. I got first place in championship mode and am moving onto other games. But I didn't know about the PS2 version and will definitely give it a try at some point!

Manual. Funny because I've never driven a stick in my life. I figure I'm supposed to shift near the redline, which is where I assume the inflection point is for engine RPM -> power output/wheel speed. Although it may be a little bit earlier (I've noticed that up-shifting well before the redline can help).

Hey all its been like a month since last time I posted, I remember I said I was done with Daytona after getting the Expert course record but in the end I ended up playing until I improved my Advanced course record by a whole second :D, to do this I had to improve my technique until I managed to get sub 43 laps consistently.

Daytona USA - Advanced T.A 2'57"37

So with that out of the way I finally got back to playing model 3 games and now I'm focusing on Daytona USA 2 PE again, after a couple of weeks of grinding I got a new record for both Beginner and Advanced.
For Beginner my objectives were: 1) get under 2'15 minutes which is quite tricky and 2) get a 16 seconds lap on the first lap, to do that you have to slipstream the AI cars from the very moment the race starts, problem is that its very easy to crash into them (especially the car number #85 which you encounter during the second turn).
And for Advanced my goal was to get under 2'50 while doing 41 seconds laps, I'm very happy with this one considering I'd always do 42 seconds on them before and my previous record was 4 seconds slower so its a massive improvement, the only thing I changed since then was the drift technique for the wild west hairpin  now its: release gas and shift to 3rd at the same time and steer.

Daytona USA 2 PE - Beginner 2'14"870

Daytona USA 2 PE - Advanced T.A 2'48"825

Next goal is getting a record I'm okay with on the Expert and Challenge courses!

How do you pull off that rocket start in Daytona 2?

The way I do it is press brake pedal first, then press accelerator pedal, and right when you hear "ONE" you let go the gas pedal for half a second then you floor it again while at the same time you release the brake pedal completely, that way the moment the announcer says "GO" you are releasing the brake pedal and pressing the accelerator again at the same time.
I also want to mention that as soon as the wheelie starts you should switch to 2nd gear IMMEDIATELY or else the wheelie will stop prematurely, this is because the car reaches 114 kmh in a nanosecond (1st gear's limit), you then want the wheelie to continue until you reach over 200 kmh and you hear the engine over rev, thats when you switch to 3rd gear while at the same time the wheelie finally stops.

Explaining the correct timing is a bit hard, so I made a video showcasing it instead so you can see what I do with the pedals and see/hear the visual and audio cues for yourself, I hope it helps! :)

Rocket Start Example:

After pulling off the rocket start you gotta cut deep through the edges of the track to get a good time on the sector, I usually aim for 00'11"500 or 00'11"400 (for reference in MARUBAKU's gameplay they get 00'11"333). There was a time I managed to get lower than that but I havent been able to do it again since and I really don't know what did I do differently to get it

1st lap sector 1-2 00'11"280:
