do i need to load specific zip file for this method? (i have 3 files: "swtrilg.zip" "swtrilgj.zip", "swtrilga.zip")

thanks:)

Are you sure you aren't just starting the game too quickly (before 3D graphics are first shown)? This is a common issue with this game and Sega Rally 2.

hi...i doesnt think so. but i will try to start it slower.
what the best zip to load the game?

If the game used to work and now doesn't after changing the test menu settings, try deleting the nvram file for the game to reset it. Then as Bart says, let the game render some 3D stuff before you do anything.

Revision A, ironically called swtrilgy, would be the so called "proper", I can enter the test menu in this version.
Trying to enter the test menu in the other games seems to make Supermodel hang.

What's confusing is your zip file names don't quite line up with the Games.xml, while the Games.xml doesn't use MAME model3 driver game version titles. :)
MAME lists the 3 versions as;

Star Wars Trilogy Arcade (Revision A) = swtrilgy
Star Wars Trilogy Arcade = swtrilgya
Star Wars Trilogy Arcade (location test, 16.09.98) = swtrilgyp

Supermodel tries to identify games by the ROM CRCs listed in the Games.xml and not the zip names. If you really wanted to, you could look inside your zips to see what you've got.
An easy way to look inside your ROMs is to use 7zip. You can easily see individual ROM names and their CRC values then check against the Games.xml file. If you don't have a fancy text editor to open xml files, just view it in a web browser. A web browser will respect the formatting and colour code the different sections, making it easily readable.

rokfpoewrkcpoqwkcp's advice is correct. If you need to check the CRC of a file without 7-zip, you can open the zip file in Windows' File Explorer, right click, and select "Properties...". It's usually listed there.

I obtained my ROMs more than a decade ago so they are all misnamed (and why I wrote Supermodel to load by CRC not filename, despite no other emulators doing this).

BTW, how do you remember your username, rokfpoewrkcpoqwkcp? :D

So simply enabling the force feedback lever skip, under "swtrilgyp" in the Games.xml, brings back test menu functionality in that game, while Spindizzi has fixed "swtrilgya" with r832.

Hello there,
I'm running r833 with the latest version of Sega Model 3 UI and still can't access to the Test mode with swtrilgya, it makes the game freeze...Am I missing something ?

Thank you

If you've downloaded a build from some crappy 3rd party web site, you might have the latest Supermodel.exe bundled with an old Games.xml file.

Keep an eye on the revision history of Supermodel at the repo here,

https://sourceforge.net/p/model3emu/code/commit_browser

Any time an update includes changes to the Games.xml file, download a new copy from the repo (at the revision you have) and compare it to yours.
(This goes for the Supermodel.ini file as well btw, although that hardly ever changes.)

Better still, build your own version of Supermodel and when ever needed, just copy the newer Games.xml file from the "Config" folder in your source code.

OK, easy option...

This is a link to the latest Games.xml file (r833) at the repo, (clicking it should download it to your PC).

https://sourceforge.net/p/model3emu/code/HEAD/tree/trunk/Config/Games.xml?format=raw

Try replacing your existing one with it.

BTW, building Supermodel yourself is pretty easy, (Link is for Windows users)

Hey thanks a bunch! I still suck at fighting Boba and Vader so I'll just have to get a joystick. Was the way it was intended to be played

Hey Daryl, just wanted to once again say thank you for this. I just bought an Aimtrak gun this week and finally got around to trying it out for the first time today. Star Wars Trilogy Arcade was the only lightgun game I was having real issues with getting the controls working properly (actually LA Machine Guns was being a bit of git to get working too), when I remembered your thread here, which sorted it for me!
