DirectInput Problem: Force Feedback Has Stopped Working

Postby Bart » Sat Oct 15, 2011 4:01 pm

The other day, I was trying to get ElSemi's Model 2 emulator up and running and had to download some older DirectX run-time packs. After applying the updates, I noticed that force feedback on my XBox pad stopped working. I suspect if I could wipe all the DirectX updates and revert back to out-of-the-box DX11, I could get things working again. Has anyone experienced anything similar? Does anyone know how to do this?

According to dxdiag, the version is still 11. Applying the older updates should not have overwritten anything. Attempting to use Microsoft's installer doesn't do anything -- it claims the version is up to date. Odd.

Wait, did you set this in the emulator.ini?

Code: Select all
[Input]
XInput=1         ;Enable support for Xbox360 compatible devices
EnableFF=1         ;Enable Force Feedback Effects

I wasn't attempting to get force feedback to work in M2. Rather, I was encountering a 'd3dx9_42.dll is missing' error, and in the process of installing older DirectX run-times, I managed to break force feedback in Supermodel on my system. Apparently, I also screwed up the ability to validate my copy of Windows 7. Luckily, I found out how to roll back changes: enter safe mode and use the 'Restore' functionality in the Control Panel. Everything is working fine now :)
