You haven't played 18 wheeler? You should look it up.. so cool!

Although I'm sure you aren't into such gimmicky 'racing' games.

It would be incredible to be able to emulate the multiple-screen Ferrari F355 arcade setup through emulation. Especially if you have a wheel. I love that game. (Only played Dreamcast version though, stunning at the time)

I too, am still blown away and eternally grateful that we have these wonderful emulators to use at home that allows us to play so many amazing arcade games. Bart, Nik, El Semi, Hap, the VivaNonno guy, etc...these are the gentlemen that have been responsible for me having an absolute BLAST with these arcade racing games. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined I'd be able to play Model 3 racing games at home with an FFB wheel *this* soon!

Ville Linde was the guy that was originally working on Model 3 emulation, but he disappeared off the face of the Earth for some unknown reason. Then came along that Russian guy who showed some promise with preliminary results for the Makron/Demul emu, but nothing ever came of that either. Then finally Bart came along and nipped this sucker in the bud!! :D So glad he did too, as I feared M3 emulation would be lost forever if Ville didn't continue with it. We're so lucky to have him as well as guys like NiK and Dr Groni bring us the ability to enjoy this awesome piece of iconic Sega hardware.

On that note, I don't often talk about what I would like, because some people like to misinterpret that as begging, and that's frowned upon in this community. But if you ask me honestly, sure of course there's still a lot of things I'd love to see happen in the emu scene.

1)First off, more than anything I'd really REALLY love to see Sega Chihiro and Linbergh hardware properly emulated someday. Being that I'm a huge OutRun 2 fan, I'd give anything to be able to play the actual arcade versions of both OR2 and OR2006 at home with proper force feedback. Believe it or not, the PC version doesn't even have ffb and the controller support is garbage to say the least. So this to me is wish #1 !!!

2)Naomi emulation has been rather quiet lately and I haven't heard much progress there. I would love proper full speed emulation of all of Sega's Naomi 1 and 2 driving games. I have never played ANY of Sega's Naomi racing games except for a small few minutes of Ferrari F355. I really want to play the Initial D games, F355, that Sega Kart game, and there's a cool driving simulator as well I want to play. So this is definitely wish #2.

3)Finally I just want to see true, proper force feedback support in MAME. There are soooo many great driving games in MAME's catalog that it seems like they're just going to waste without the ability to play them properly :( FFB adds so much to the enjoyment of a driving game. I hardly ever play any racing games in MAME because of this. The only exception is a recent bout with Ridge Racer 1 and 2 recently. But FFB is definitely missed there. Howard Castro is working on MameHooker that should eventually allow us to experience force feedback in MAME in a sort of rudimentary way, so that is at least promising :)

Other than those three things, I am fairly content and happy with what we have right now :)

I'm also waiting for a sega chihiro emulator because maximum tune uses that hardware

Bart wrote:What sort of media does the Linbergh use? Encrypted DVDs or an encrypted HDD? All I've heard is that the protection consists of a custom USB device. I can't imagine it being all that difficult to emulate if the program code was available un-encrypted. I would guess they're using OpenGL, since it's Nvidia hardware running on Linux.

A while ago, I joined a discussion about it.

What i can understand:

The Sega Lindbergh system: an encrypted DVD with the data/bin; an encrypted USB Dongle; a HDD for storing the decrypted data from the DVD; a Alta Vista Linux with their own custom drivers for the GPU and MB; and the holy grail, a custom P4 motherboard, with a module that encrypts and decrypts the data of the whole system. It uses a system of protection Naomi lyke, but more refined. Beyond that, each Game/DVD has its own USB dongle, which works solely and exclusively for him, and there are several versions of Lindbergh, the Blue Version, dont use Linux, instead, uses an embedded version of Windows XP.

Here:

http://www.sega-naomi.com/forum/viewtop ... 5fcdd6154c
http://www.sega-naomi.com/forum/viewtop ... dc4c3051fc

They managed to decrypt the data from a DVD(VF5) using an app on Linux. The problem is not with the data on the DVD´s and the encrypted code in the dongle, but how this module on the motherboard works, and this appears to be the wall. Would´nt be so easy, something like only break all encryption keys and try to run right into the OS, something like, what is done with Taito's Type X emulation.

Maybe an emulation of this enigmatic module?

Furthermore, the system is relatively expensive and rare, making it difficult to access.

Too many stuff still needed. Still need a proper System 22 emulator so we can play perfect versions of Time Crisis 2 and 3, play Rave Racer and other games in perfect and 1080p resolution. We also need a Chihiro emulator so we can play incredible games like Virtua Cop 3 and many many others. ALso we need Hikaru for Planet Harriers, and a proper emulator so we can play Battle Gear too.

Too many games to cover but yes, the point is the work is not done yet. :)

I've got copies of Outrun 2 or 2006 SP on three different systems (PS3, PC and original Xbox) and each one's got something that the others lack - it's a shame they haven't made an ultimate edition with all the features of every version: All the courses from Outrun 2 and 2006 SP, plus the bonus Scud Race and Daytona 2 courses from the Xbox version (preferably the Japanese version). Also the sublime pad rumble effects from the original Xbox version. The vibration effect on my PS3 version was all but non-existent even at the highest setting. Also include all the extra music and missing end game animations and Force feedback from the Japanese PS2 version and the HD loveliness of the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 version and you'd be onto a winner. Still, seeing as Sega no-longer have the Ferrari license I can't see this happening anytime in this lifetime.

rnet and are fully playable on PC, so presumably if Taito wanted to port it to home systems it'd be pretty simple. I don't think it'll ever happen though, so I'm always on the look out for any dodgy sites that may have a ROM dumped there - no luck with that so far

I can sort you out with a Taito Type X romset. You're UK, yes? Send me a PM.
