Did Namco build it to compete with Model 3! They don't look quite as good as model 3, not bad though.

Unfortunately, Namco couldn't do this in the graphics department as they didn't have the technology and funding to do so, but other than gameplay and graphics, where they really made up for this is that they made sure that every game they created literally scream at you with some incredible music and a hype announcer to pull-in the crowd and it worked! I don't know if you you were fortunate enough to enjoy the glory arcade days, but back then (and now if you are lucky to find a good venue), every time you walked pass a Namco machine you'll always hear something incredible that would excite you to play or at least "check out" the game. Check this out these examples and, of course, you don't need me to showcase Ridge & Rave Racer as I'm sure you are very knowledgeable about those games:
1) Time Crisis 2 on the System 23 board, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G8lvuAcmIw
2) Ace Driver 2 Victory Lap on the System 22 board, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiwLyELZf7U
One of the very few SEGA games that really pushed SEGA's attract screen to the next level (the Godly realm) was SEGA Touring Cars Championship. The attract screen on that game was so damn good that it made lots of gamers go out and purchase the official album and even the poorly converted SEGA Saturn game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbXIcerLAK0
Anyhow, I hope this more than answer your question.

I hope someone can perfectly emulate this hardware in MAME.

Thanx, if you are a real person

I guess a nice consolation prize is that we DID get that rare arcade port of RRV running on PS2 based hardware.
