Dat FIle for supermodel (Model3) Mame Romset

Postby Strodwn » Tue Aug 25, 2020 3:46 am

Hello to all,

I was wondering if a DAT file existed for your emulator?

My roms are from the last Mame romset (0.223)
I'm on the r814 version
all works except for one:
on which I had to add :
Code: Select all
epr-19338a.bin >> Dirt Devil
epr-19338a.bin >> Emergency Call
epr-18261.ic9 >> Le Mans24

to extract my roms from the Mame set I modified the DAT from Mame to keep only what concerns the Model3?

do you already have a DAT file for your emulator ?

Isn't "Games.xml" suitable for your needs?

Thank you for your answer

No, the goal is to use software such as romulus or even clrmamepro to extract the games from the Model3 system from a full set Mame.

The "Games.xml" file does not appear to be compatible with Romulus or clrmamepro software.

the ultimate goal is to provide a turnkey solution in the Recalbox system to integrate model3 games when the emulator is integrated into the system.

but as I noticed that when I use my method to create a DAT model3 only from a DAT Mame I was missing these files:
Code: Select all
     epr-19338a.bin >> Dirt Devil
     epr-19338a.bin >> Emergency Call
     epr-18261.ic9 >> Le Mans24

that I have to add manually.

Unfortunately, since I've never used these tools, I've never bothered to support them. I believe we are generally compatible with MAME sets but there are two potential sources of incompatibility:

- Merged ROM sets can be finicky because Supermodel tries to auto-detect which game is in the zip file rather than relying on its name (as MAME does). I think there are some edge cases where a shared drive board ROM can fool Supermodel into thinking a game is present but missing ROMs. I believe that leaving the ROM sets un-merged works. In that case, running Supermodel against the child ROM set (whose filename doesn't matter) will cause Supermodel to search for the parent ROM set (using the MAME naming convention) in the ROMs folder.

- Drive board ROMs. It is believed that some games re-used drive board ROMs (including possibly from Model 2 games) and so we have added support for those to Games.xml. I don't think MAME includes these.

Due to a lack of development resources, DAT files are not going to happen unless a developer volunteers to get involved.

As Bart told in the previous post, you could try using FULL non-merged sets.
BTW maybe you could post a request in the JRomManager GitHub page and ask for adding XML SuperModel3 support.

Have you tried creating a DAT file from SuperModel3' roms folder via clrmamepro?

Hey, you can do it! ;) (clrmamepro is really a nice piece of software indeed, pretty powerful!! 8-) 8-) )

  1. From the main clrmamepro menu enter the "Scanner" mode, then
  2. Click "Set Information" button you'll find in the left-down corner of the "ScannerResults" window
  3. The "Set Information" window will open up
  4. Click "[STANDARD]" in the left-down area sub-window and make sure that "Prefered" value (it's inside "Set Information" in the left-up area sub-window) is cleared / emptied
  5. Type %s=model3.cpp;model3.c inside the "Select Sets" box you'll find inside "Set Selection" lef-middle area sub-window
  6. Now check: "Incl. Clones" + "Incl. Parent" + "Incl. Devices" + "Incl- BIOS" and the click "Apply" button
  7. Click "Export" button
  8. Save as you want the .dat file
  9. Done! ;)
