Is my computer fast enough??

Postby Sideshowbob » Sat Dec 31, 2011 10:02 pm

Firstly..... Great emulator!! Thanks for making it available to everyone.

My FPS are only about 30 on Scud racer. CPU is 3.6 Ghz (single core), 2 GB Ram & Radeon HD 4650 video card.

Is there any way to get it running at the correct speed.

Thanks.

Hi Bob

At a guess, I would venture that those specs are not sufficient to get 60fps out of Supermodel at present. Prior to my current setup, I ran a Q6600 at stock speeds with a GTX 260 and 4GB of DDR2 and it just about hit 55fps. The 260 is a more powerful card than the 4650, so that would probably explain some slowness. There are however, a couple of things you can try:

1. You can change the PPC settings. taken from the Help page
2. You can remove the shaders with the following argument. This may have a beneficial impact on speed - The argument is "supermodel scud.zip -frag-shader=Fragment_NoSpotlight.glsl" (remove quotes obviously)

On single core CPUs, it may also be worthwhile to try turning off multi-threading. It won't have a huge impact but you can probably wring out a few extra frames per second that way. Disabling sound altogether (including the DSB board) will also help.

Thanks guys for your replies. :D

I tried all of the above, but still can't get it fast enough.

I think it's time for a faster M/B + CPU

What's the best "bang for buck". ie do I need to go icore, or can I get away with a dual or quad core setup. What sort of video card too?

Thanks again

I have a pc like yours and I manage to constant 60 fps with this setup

[ scud ]

PowerPCFrequency = 30
SoundVolume = 50
MusicVolume = 50
MultiThreaded = 1
EmulateSCSP = 0
EmulateDSB = 0
XResolution = 1440
YResolution = 900
FullScreen = 1
Throttle = 1
ShowFrameRate = 0
printinputs = 1
FlipStereo = 0

VERY IMPORTANT: ALWAYS TIME LAP MODE!

Ok,

looking at getting a 1156 chipset motherboard, and i5 760 (2.8 quad core), or should I go 650 (3.2 dual core).

Will this run Daytona 2 at 60 FPS.

I don't really want to go 1155 chipset, as the CPU's are quite a bit more expensive.

What Video card should I go with. I reallly want to know what is the cheapest I can go and still run at full speed.

These are the spec's of the Video card I'm looking at.....will it run it OK

This is a known emulation-related problem with the Virtua Striker games. There's no fix for it yet, I'm afraid. I think it's related to IRQ/status registers, so it'll be a while before it's sorted out in a future version of Supermodel.
