I'll add Slipstream to the retro-inspired racing game recommendation list, too. It's excellent.

Oh man, I really wanted to love Slipstream, but I
hated the way the drifting in it feels. It feels like they've tried to make a 2D looking racer with an Outrun 2 style Drifting mechanic. Unlike that game though, you seem to suddenly veer to the far left or right side of the screen when you drift, rather than the screen moving around your car. I found it really off-putting. Trying to control your drifts with this odd camera really wasn't to my liking and it makes trying to steer past other cars far harder than it ought to be. It also makes trying to steer around 'S' bends a pain-in-the-arse too.
On a totally unrelated note to any of that - I've been able to organise some 8 Player online games of Daytona USA on the PS3 recently. They've been a lot of fun.
Daytona USA - 8 player (777 Speedway)Daytona USA - 8 player (Dinosaur Canyon Mirrored)Daytona USA - 8 player Online (Seaside Street Galaxy)I was even able to organise a 2 Player Online game of
Outrun Online Arcade with one of the guys from the Daytona games. It's great that the online functions of all these old PS3 Sega racers still work in 2020.
