How do you adjust PC joysticks for SWT?

My kid has been playing with a mouse, so I finally bought a couple of used analog PC joysticks to try out. Both do the same thing: the farthest right they can go while playing the game is about 3/4 of the screen, then it either stops completely or sometimes jumps to the far right edge of the screen.

Any thoughts?

I disconnected the wireless mouse, and that didn't work. I then tried to delete the mouse from the config file, and that didn't work. The middle to the left side works, but not right side. I wonder if the problem is the Super Joy Box 7 Gameport to USB converter I'm using.
