Improving FPS for ATI GPU!

Postby TheSupermodel3 » Tue Oct 04, 2011 8:43 am

Hi all!

I own a radeon GPU xfx HD 6870 1go coupled with an old core 2 duo E6750 overclocked 3.33 ghz + 4go ddr2 800mhz!
I noticed frame rate is not the same when i changed my ATI drivers!

I tried the new catalyst 11.10 preview and my frame rate in scud race is about 31/42/55 fps in all tracks! :o

I returned to the old 11.3 for seven 64 bits and it's a solide 60 fps at all time!

If it can help ati users! :D
- os: 7 /64 bits
- I5 2500k @ 4.5 ghz
- Sapphire HD 7970 @ 1150/1800 mhz
- 8go kingston DDR3 1600 mhz
- ssd crucial m4 128go
- AKASA venom 750 W
- xbox360 wireless pad + Fanatec csr wheel+ G27+ems top gun...
- LED 1080p Samsung 46"

Well since the new driver is a preview, it's probably not stable yet?

Try to disable vsync or enable tripple buffering in catalyst if you must have bleeding edge drivers.

HI retro!

It 's already done you know but it changes nothing!

Super sampling Anti Aliasing is enable x8 and with out Vsync ,i have some tearing in the bottom of the screen so i realy need it actived!Anisotropic filtering makes horizontal lines in the road so i disabled it!

My frame rate stay the same(60 fps all time) with this old 11.3 drivers in scud race!

Daytona 2 bote runs between 50 and 60 fps with Vsync and SSAAx8!

I tried the 11.7,11.9 and the last 11.10( to improves battle field beta) but it's always the same thing i said! :D

I also have a Msi Radeon 6870, and i can say that the 11.3 driver is crap, mainly because with it it takes forever for me to alt+tab out of fullscreen games.

I use the 11.9 driver and i do NOT experience any slowdown, so the problem is most likely bad settings.

I have a 5870 and in Scud Race it's mostly 60fps, with *some slight* frame drops in the Medium Aztec course, mainly when driving around the waterfalls and a bit of it when exiting the Aztec cave with the tight turn. Every other course seems rock solid. Daytona 2 is mostly between 50 and 60, with the main slowdown being in the advance Amusement City course at various parts of the track, but that is mainly emulator bugs causing those lags.

In Catalyst Control Center, are you saying it is best to turn V-Sync on and anisotropic filtering off? Also, what type of AA should I put my slider at....Adaptive Multi or Super Sample? And what about tessallation...AMD optimized and or move the slider all the way to the right?

Hi all!

isamu, tessallation is for Directx 11 effects so,it's not working with supermodel!

Super sampling AA from catalyst= best quality Multi Saampling AA = best performence !

When i enable SSAAx8,there are no impact in the frame rate,it's stays the same so you can enable it!

I installed the new 11.9(for "RAGE"!) and i can't run supermodel at all!

I installed and another 11.9 whql and scud runs at 30 fps!

All setting in CCC are the same as the 11.3!

I decided to installing the old 11.8 whql and all runs as good as the 11.3 performence (1920,1080 with SSAAx8 + Vsync actived= solid 60fps,min 59 max 62 for scud and 52/60 fps for daytona usa 2 bote! 8-)

Conclusion = drivers of your GPU are very important for good performence in supermodel!

Thanks for the reply.

That is strange....I am running 11.9 and do not experience these issues you're having. *shrug*
