weird trackball issue - star wars

Postby d8thstar » Wed Sep 28, 2011 12:50 pm

first all, THANK YOU for the killer update, simply awesome.

i am having a small issue trying to configure the star wars controls. when the game first starts, i am able to use the trackball just fine. after a few seconds though, only the x axis continues to work and i can't move the cursor up and down. i used the sample "analogue joystick" as a template and modified it to the following. please let me know if you see anything or if there is anything that i can try, thank you

Star Wars Trilogy
[swtrilgy]
InputAnalogJoyLeft = "KEY_LEFT" ; digital, move left
InputAnalogJoyRight = "KEY_RIGHT" ; digital, move right
InputAnalogJoyUp = "KEY_UP" ; digital, move up
InputAnalogJoyDown = "KEY_DOWN" ; digital, move down
InputAnalogJoyX = "MOUSE_XAXIS,JOY_XAXIS" ; analog, full X axis
InputAnalogJoyY = "MOUSE_YAXIS,JOY_YAXIS" ; analog, full Y axis
InputAnalogJoyTrigger = "KEY_A,JOY_BUTTON1,MOUSE_LEFT_BUTTON"
InputAnalogJoyEvent = "KEY_S,JOY_BUTTON2,MOUSE_RIGHT_BUTTON"

Do you also have a joy stick hooked up by any chance?

What happens in Lost World? When you start up Lost World in full screen mode, you'll see a crosshair. If you're running in windowed mode, press ALT-I to show the crosshair. Does the Y axis ever work?

thanks bart.

yes, i did in fact have a 360 controller plugged in. my arcade cab outputs video to my projector and i use the 360 controller while sitting on the couch. unplugging the controller made everything on the cabinet work just fine (just finished swt in fact)

as for lost world, is there an updated rom set or something? i remember it working before but now it won't launch, strange.

fyi, the y axis did work, briefly, with the 360 controller plugged in but then it stopped and i could only move left/right with the trackball.

i'd be happy to report back anything else i find with the 360 controller connected/disconnected if you'd like

I'm thinking the Y axis on your XBox joypad might be a bit "noisy" (not settling down to 0 consistently) and is fighting for control with the mouse. There's an easy fix: remove the joystick axis mappings from InputAnalogJoyX and InputAnalogJoyY. Should solve that.

No, but the sound ROMs are required as of v0.2a and you probably didn't have those. I'm surprised there are still incomplete dumps floating around out there.

you're the best bart, thanks man, i figured that'd be the case once it was working with the 360 controller unplugged.

fyi, i am using xpadder for the 360 pad. once i removed the joystick mappings, the trackball AND the pad are now working. thank you again!

Isn't xpadder some sort of program that maps the mouse to the joystick? I could see that causing some conflicts. But it sounds like you've got it all sorted now. Enjoy!

BTW, I didn't notice this at first, but this configuration is not going to work. You cannot use any of the Input* settings in a game-specific section. They are only read from [Global] (or no section at all, which is also considered to be part of [Global]). The reason for this is two-fold: the input system does its own parsing of input options and all the Model 3 inputs are uniquely defined, so there's no point in even allowing them to be specified in game-specific blocks. So if you are really doing it as above, Supermodel is totally ignoring those options.
