Best power pc frequency for model's 3 games

Postby ifride » Wed Jun 15, 2022 6:33 am

Hi! first of all thank you for the work you do on the emulator and in making each release better and better ...
I didn't find a discussion about it: has someone created a list with the best frequencies for each game?
For example I know that for sega rally 2 (srally2) the best is 70, for scud race 150.
I was wondering if there was a summary list for each game on the board. Thank you!

150 sounds way too high for Scud Race. I think Step 1.5 was clocked at 100 MHz.

Can too high frequencies break games just the same as too low frequencies?
Or is it better to set them high? I too am looking for guidance with this

I don't think too high is a problem provided your system can handle it. The games will just spin-wait through any excess cycles. But I don't think that anything above 66, 100, and 166 for Step 1.0, 1.5, and 2.x games, respectively, is going to help.

Thanks Bart, but hasn't a list been made with the best frequencies for each one?

Not to my knowledge. But I just gave you what I think it should be :)

I didn't mean just for the games mentioned (thanks for Scud race), but for all of them :)

The 'best' frequency is the original frequency the hardware ran at, which varies between various hardware steppings. But many games will run happily at full speed with lower clock values.

As Ian and I have said: the "best" frequency is the actual frequency of the board stepping, and there are three different board steppings. Supermodel prints the stepping when the game starts or you can check Games.xml. The frequencies are 66, 100, and 166 for Step 1.0, 1.5, and 2.x, respectively.

When we will see the Sega Rally 2 Black Screen versions working and the Scud Race Version Title Screen have the textures fixed? And i think we have one Star Wars Trilogy as well too.
