Getting Force Feedback to work

Postby raidendx » Sat Oct 01, 2011 6:40 pm

I have a Logitech Driving Force wheel and had issues initially with getting the force feedback working.
I notice the error log file was listing the force feedback cmdline parameters as = 0.

So I manually changed \config\supermodel.ini
; Force Feedback
ForceFeedback = 1
DirectInputConstForceMax=100
DirectInputSelfCenterMax=100
DirectInputVibrateMax=100
DirectInputFrictionMax=100
XInputConstForceThreshold=100
XInputConstForceMax=100
XInputVibrateMax=100
and also deleted a copy of Supermodel.ini from the \ base directory. (I had a copy there for some reason)

From my Logitech Panel I increase the FFB effect to 125+ and change the deadzone if you want and sent it to the tray.

And finally of course - you need to have the drive board rom files inside the respective zip files
Drive Board ROM
Daytona USA 2 Power Edition
Daytona USA 2 Battle on the Edge
- epr-20985.bin

Scud Race
Scud Race Plus
- epr-19338a.bin

Google these files if you can't find them.

I launched via command line and the FFB worked and is very strong.
I have tried this on both 32/64 Win7

Also I notice in one of the threads awhile ago about someone asking about the FFB effect in Scud/Daytona.
Daytona 2 and Scud both had collision FFB - when a car hits you or when you hit a wall/grass there is a strong effect/yolt.

Also Scud Race has FFB when you loose control of the car it swings left and right accordingly when you car has completely lost control.
Scud Race FFB effect on my machine is very close to the arcade - it might need some tweaking to perfect but it's definately there.
Also if you have a Logitech wheel make sure the Panel is loaded and send it to the tray.

Hope this helps

Hi raidendx,

Glad you got force feedback working okay with your setup!

Yes, force feedback is not enabled by default, the reason being that its still kind of experimental and currently it takes extra processing power to emulate the drive board (the Model 3 component that handles feedback) so there's no point enabling it unless requested.

You can also acheive the same thing by increasing the DirectInputConstForceMax, DirectInputSelfCenterMax and DirectInputVibrateMax options in your Supermodel.ini. The advantage of doing so with these is that if you put the options in a section with the same name as the game's ROM (ie [scud] or [srally2]) then you can have custom settings for each game.

At the moment there is no effect when a car collides with you in Scud while in Daytona 2 there is a jolt with most car collisions but sometimes it is missing. These are known problems and are being looked into.

Great! That's really good to hear :-) !

Cheers, Nik.

Thank you very much for this information. =)
Only today I remembered this and noticed that my Xbox 360 controller wasn't vibrating at all.

Was missing the ROM files necessary for the FF feature. Just added them and now ti works! =D

Tried with Day2 PE, it vibrates when you push the steering wheel on both ways, but when you get slammed from behind or in front it doesn't vibrate accordingly. (?)

Anyways, this info is very usefull. Thank you very much.

Hi,
what "Degrees of Rotation" do you use for Scud Race, Daytona 2, etc.? I got G27 wheel, if asked.
