Joystick Config trouble.

Postby knight76 » Mon Feb 20, 2012 4:22 am

Hi all.

Firstly bloody awesome emulator Bart. Stunning.

First of all my system is chugging along running Scud slowly, Daytona even slower  but runs Star Wars ok, at least in the destroy death star mission.

My issue is with the configuration of my thrustmaster joystick. In windows through control panel I can test the joystick and it moves through all axis correctly. in game the target sticks to the bottom of the screen and stays there, I can move it left/right but not up at all.

I have gone through command line, ie. supermodel -config-inputs -input-system=dinput and configured my joystick, it shows appropriate axis results and I q to save and quit. In game the target remains glued to bottom.

In the config I tested it and left the joystick at center position for the up and down tests and it correctly detected I did nothing and offered me to re-do. So it is detecting my joystick movements for sure.

I did read something about having to re-map the thingy twice for the new settings to take, I am not sure what this part means as such, I have ran the calibration twice in a row and then Q to save and quit etc.

I'm a bit lost I am afraid. I read through all the pages in this fitting room, on the help and readme and still have not evolved.

Anyway, hopefully I can get this sorted and start blasting imperial pilots.

Hi knight76,

It sounds like the mouse or another controller may be overriding the joystick's value in the emulator - try making sure that your joystick is the only thing that is referenced by the game inputs in the Supermodel.ini config file.

Alternatively, post your Supermodel.ini on here so we can take a look.

Thanks, Nik.

Hey thanks a lot for that Nik, spot on.

I had left my G25 plugged in and the pedals were registering on the Y axis. I loaded the game after your suggestion and hit the pedals and sure enough got movement. I should have realised.

Thanks.

No problem - glad you were able to get it working!

This happens when your joystick is slightly off-centre or is noisy and so is not reporting itself as centred. With Supermodel's default input configuration the joystick then takes precedence over the mouse and prevents you from controlling the game properly.

To stop this behaviour you can either specify a larger deadzone for your joystick or, if you never use the joystick for Star Wars, you can simply remove the references to JOY_XAXIS and JOY_YAXIS in the InputAnalogJoyX and InputAnalogJoyY inputs in the Supermodel.ini config file.

Cheers, Nik.
