Le Mans 24 Hours - What am I missing?

Postby VallyStyle » Wed Sep 28, 2011 10:36 am

Long time lurker of Mameworld finally signs up for an account somewhere, blimey. :)

Brilliant work on Supermodel 0.2. It's absolutely GREAT to finally be able to play Model 3 games again, especially Scud and Le Mans.

However, I've given Le Mans some extended play time and I can't seem to get above a C rank, or finish in any position above 6th, no matter how perfectly I drive. Has anyone had any success?

I've gotten used to the fact that there's one car that will always rubberband in front of you so I'm guessing you have to slipstream that to progress through the pack, I know collisions with other cars will screw up your tyres so you need to pit, but even with a brilliant race, brand new tyres and almost no collisions I'm still only getting a C and I just can't progress to the front of the pack in time.

Also, are continues mandatory? Someone needs to show a video where they've done the entire 24 hours in one continue. :P

One of our testers noticed this problem. I suspect a CPU emulation bug or some sort of nefarious issue with the timing.

Ah so it's an emulation bug and not a game issue - Thanks for the confirmation with this. :)

I thought this thread was about Le Mans sucking. It's obvious that it has been developed by a C team, right?

Lemans 24 is amazing that it's such a bad game IMO. :(

Actually 1996 was a bad year for Sega and driving games, Touring Cars and Lemans24 - both I did not enjoy..

Goes to show even the almighty Sega (the 90's sega - not present day Sega), could make substandard stuff..

Le Mans 24 came out in 1997! not 1996!
Sega has made interesting hardware back in those days, the model 1, naomi, and don't forget the all custom hikaru!

Le Mans is an acquired taste. It's definitely got slightly odd handling, but IMO it's definitely not a C-list Sega game. The day-to-dusk-to-night-to-dawn and the changing weather effects were totally revolutionary back in 1997, and I think it's really only been since the game's emulation improved so much in Supermodel that we can really appreciate just how good it looked.
