Interesting. All along I've been building Supermodel without network board emulation. I just tried building it and experienced a crash with this error:

terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::range_error'
  what():  Node "port_in" does not exist

No problem. Just add the following to Supermodel.ini:

port_in = 0
port_out = 0
addr_out = 0

I still do not start the games for this reason, I set everything to 0, but nothing starts
