Graphical glitches and other issues with Mac OS Supermodel

Postby Rhapsody » Wed Jun 03, 2020 1:39 am

Hey! :)

I could really do with some help in smoothing out some issue with the Supermodel emulator. I'm running El Capitan on a 13" 2011 MacBook Pro and I've correctly installed the SDL library and created a path within Terminal to the emulator and both Star Wars Trilogy ROMs. Supermodel starts up and after eventually figuring out that I have to get around the lever message by entering and exiting the service mode, I manage to reach the following stages:

So far so good. However, the problems then begin. Most of the graphics are missing, as you can see:

This is from using version 606, I tried R741 but it failed to start and reported the error message of "Illegal instruction: 4."

Can anyone shed any light on how these issues can be corrected please?

Thanks for replying, I'm using the basic settings from the Terminal. All I've added is =fullscreen.

EDIT: I've managed to download SVN 793, it then requires an entirely different path for SDL, which I eventually created after using
Code: Select all
defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
to unhide the location and after a bit of Googling, I found the file libSDL-1.2.0.dylib and place it into the correction location and ran the emulator. It started but then halted and displayed the following:

Supermodel: A Sega Model 3 Arcade Emulator (Version 0.3a-WIP)

Any ideas?

hi,
rev 790 and higher use sdl2 library
rev 789 and lower use sdl1 Library

however, I personnaly have no knowledges with apple machine, the makefile for these machines was made at random for sdl2 lib
normally with 789 and sdl1 lib, it should be ok

if I remember right, sdl2 lib must be copied in Framework directory (not sure)
may be more informations on the original sdl2 forum web site

This is confusing. SDL 2 has been installed on this computer for quite a while - and in the Frameworks folder, it works fine with SDL MAME for example.

I don't have a makefile, do I need one? If I could find somewhere to download the libSystem.B.dylib file from, I might be able to get it working...

what confuses me is that
you say you have downloaded rev793 and found the file libSDL-1.2.0.dylib and place it into the correction location
this version of sdl library (1.2.0) "shocks" me. it should be 2.0.12 or something like that (v2). even more you manually installed it
is sdl2 correctly installed ? runtime and development lib
https://www.libsdl.org/download-2.0.php
is all of your dev environment is up to date too ? (compiler, header, lib...)

hum, I wonder how you build Supermodel3 without makefile ?
sources files are here
https://svn.code.sf.net/p/model3emu/code/trunk
inside you have a makefile directory with makefile files for each systems

the libSystem.B.dylib file seems to be a system library (is your system up to date ?)

I have no other ideas (based on my linux knowledge)
May be there are osx specialists here to guid you

you can also try to build rev789 (last version using sdl1 and known working makefile)
to test if it's working normally without system lib error
