GeForce GT 220 and Supermodel... results

Postby GambitRogue777 » Fri Dec 30, 2011 5:22 pm

I hesitate to post threads like this, but I do have an issue. I got a desktop for Christmas (to game on). Asus CG5270 model with C2Q at 2.5GHz and GeForce GT 220. Bart knows I posted about this earlier.

I got this thinking Supermodel would work, but for Scud Race and especially Daytona 2, they run at around 31-40 FPS. They are definitely playable, but I would love to see them run full speed. :)

I overclocked the GPU, since SM is GPU-dependant. That doesn't seem to improve frame-rate. Do I have to have some sort of OpenGL driver for the emulator? I also overclocked the PowerPC to 37 and 50 on the front-end, for Scud Race. Nothing improved.

BuriedEgg says he had no problem running it on the 220. Maybe his card is different from mine. My 220 is Asus-branded, I believe. Is that the problem?

How fast is his CPU? Version 0.3a of Supermodel should be noticeably faster for most people because the renderer will run in a separate thread. Out of curiosity, if you pause the emulator (Alt-P) for a second or two, then resume, does the frame increase temporarily?

I think BuriedEgg's CPU was 2.6GHz. It's a C2D.

Hey, I never thought of pausing the game. I'll try pausing the game, and see if that helps. And if not, I can wait for version 3 of the emu to be released.

If he is able to get 60 FPS, so should you. I'm assuming that you are both running Windows 7, is that correct? Also, make sure that you are running the 64-bit binary. I would also look into driver settings. There may be some things you can do to eek out a little more performance. You can try upgrading your Nvidia drivers if you haven't done so already.

If the game runs faster for a full second or two after un-pausing it, then your problem may be related to the processor affinity issue some people were reporting earlier.

Lastly, are you able to get 60 FPS when there are no 3D graphics on-screen (start-up screens, the Test Menu, etc.)?

FYI, I run Vista Home Premium (64-bit).

Yes, seemingly. I ran Scud Race in test mode, and it ran fine at the 60 FPS range, according to the front-end. What made you ask that?

I'm trying to get a sense of whether it is the CPU or GPU that is the bottleneck for you. It's actually hard to tell. If you disable throttling, does it go any faster in the Test Menu (that is, can you get it above 60 FPS?) What happens if you run it in XP compatibility mode?

Compatability mode? I was thinking that'd be slower. It is on 61 FPS sometimes.

EDIT: Just checked XP mode, didn't really enable anything, because what I enabled didn't seem to run good.

Other than that, I guess I need to upgrade either the software or buy a new GPU. Ugh. But wait, there's version 3 coming out, with the DynaRec!

One other off-topic question, sorry, but are you going to fix the timers (IRQs) for the next version? I don't think I asked you this.

In the nvidia control panel try turning off vertical sync. that would be a big performance boost.
My pc:

Proccessor Intel core i7 6700K @ 4.0 TB @ 4.50

Are you sure? It doesn't seem to differ to me. Do I reset my PC?

You shouldnt. But when i had the gt 430 i noticed a big difference and if you put on throttling in the supermodel settings. also try changing the 3d settings tab then going to adjust with image preview and use the slider to adjust all settings to perfomance.
