Perhaps a bit of niche one here, but I've been a huge fan of Daytona 2 PE's Grand Prix mode - basically ramping up the number of laps. The beginner course is fantastic in this mode, as sometimes the safety car comes out for a bit of novelty fun.

Anyway, I've been working on it for ages but finally got a sub 12-minute race done. I had lots of very close calls, 100th of a second off kind of thing, so very glad to get that sub-12 mark! I don't know if anyone else enjoys the Grand Prix mode?

I was randomly searching for some stuff related to Daytona USA 2 online during my lunch break at work the other day (as one does) and I found a thread over at Resetera that had a load of old scanned magazine articles about Daytona USA 2, which I thought were worth sharing here. It's odd, because I used to religiously buy the UK Sega Saturn Mag back then and I can't ever recall them doing any features on the game, so not sure how I missed all this back in the day...

Full credit for sharing these goes to the forum user SharpX68K over there.

Man I wish there was still a Daytona USA cabinet around where I live. I think last time I played one was at Galloping Ghost near Chicago, last October, and it was a standup cab (which I'd never seen in the wild before). Prior to that, some of the Barcade locations in NYC had them and maybe still do.

Oh man, if I ever visit the US again (highly likely as I've got family in western Canada) I'm am so down for a visit to Galloping Ghost, even if it means a few internal flights. It looks AMAZING. I'd love to be able to find a local(ish) arcade that's got either a Daytona USA 2, Sega Rally, Le Man's 24 or SCUD Race cab. Never ever played a SR2 or Le Mans back in the day (although I did encounter them) and it's probably been about 22+ years since I played on a real SCUD or D2.

It's definitely worth a trip. You could easily burn a whole day or two there. It's unlike anything I've ever experienced. Unfortunately, there are an increasing number of broken machines. I don't think they can keep up with the maintenance of thousands of cabinets.

Rerecording my runs in better quality and with faster times. First up is Scud Race's medium course in 2'28"91, ~2 seconds faster than my previous best :D
