Maximum Tune/Initial D vs. Any other Sega Racers in the 90s

Postby Jiterdomer » Tue Feb 08, 2022 3:56 pm

So the current racing games we have now were Initial D and Maximum Tune. There are significant racing game changes that differs between two old Sega racers in the 90s: Daytona USA and Scud Race. Which games do you prefer most in terms of popular racing games?

Outrun 2 will forever remain my favourite arcade racer, veeeery closely followed by the original Daytona and Sega Rally. I love the big model 3 racers too, but Scud Race is just too hard to really be truly enjoyable for me and much as I love Daytona USA 2 I just prefer the handling in the original Daytona compared to it's younger Model 3 brother. I probably love Sega Rally 2 on a par with the first game really and Le Mans 24 is definitely in there too as an honourable mention, despite it's slightly dodgy handling.

I never really got into the whole Initial D and Maximum Tune thing. The whole one-on-one on very samey looking mountain roads things just never really appealed to me in Initial D and the Eurobeat tunes are just a bit too much for me, even as someone that normally loves dance music. I've played a bit of Maxi Tune 5 and 6 in Teknoparrot recently though and I definitely prefer them to the ID stuff. Although the repeating city tracks can also be a bit samey, they seem a bit more interesting to look at and i like the fact you often will have more than just one rival to go up against in a race. Also, that Yuzo Koshiro soundtrack is just, mmmmmm, bangin'!

Daytona USA, Daytona USA 2 Power Edition, Sega Rally, Outrun 2 and Sega Rally 2 in that order are in my opinion absolutely amazing games, I only got to play Outrun 2 for the first time very recently and I'm very impressed with it, its incredibly fun and easy to get into.

As for the new arcade racing games I haven't played any of them yet, I never got the chance to see any of those irl and I can't get teknoparrot to run so... maybe one day I'll get to play them, I'm most definitely interested in Maximum Tune the most because I wanna try something very different, I like the idea of racing in the highways and I also like that it is inspired in the Mid Night Club which was a real street racers club that existed in Japan and they have quite an interesting story to learn about. By the way I also love that Maximum Tune has this story mode type of gameplay where you get characters talking and dialogues.

Hi,
I like it the most

1. Daytona USA 2
2. Scud Race
3. Sega Rally 2
4. Indy 500 (Model 2), this game was made for Sega Model 3 but eventually released by Sega to Model 2
5. Sega Race TV (lindberght)
6. Modern games didn't appeal to me (I don't play much)
