Is it possible to use Model 3 2D tilemap engine for displaying not a text only but also pictures at this stage?

Absolutely. You just have to define your own patterns and place them in pattern memory.

Nope. You have to code everything from zero. No tooling exists. The Model 3 test program I wrote from scratch in C, using gcc as a cross-compiler (which I had to compile myself on Windows, uphill in the snow), and the ROM patches I've written in assembly language, are the only Model 3 code that has been written *in the entire universe* since 1998.
