Supermodel on a 31khz monitor

Postby Retro77 » Tue Sep 20, 2022 2:46 pm

Hi all,

I have added Supermodel to a PC connected to an old Sega cabinet with a 31khz screen. I had previously installed groovy mame and CRTemudriver on an old ATI card which allows me to pick resolutions higher and lower than 640x480 (using interlaced etc).

The problem is the only way I can get Supermodel close to playable is to set everything to the lowest (original) resolution and use legacy engine.

I was wondering, if I swapped out the card for an Nvidia card, is there a way that I can force it to act in a similar fashion to the modded ATI card and display resolutions within the monitor tolerance so I can utilize the performance boost that comes with using an Nvidia card?

Thanks

One solution that someone commented on the Arcade Controls forums is to use the AMD card with CRT Emudriver to output the 31khz signal, and use the better Nvidia GPU to render the game/emulator.

I'm not sure how you would do this, but it seems like a reasonable alternative than trying to find a good Nvidia card that can both a) output a 31khz compatible signal while b) being able to run Supermodel with "better" settings.

Thanks for the suggestion Orimarc.

I had no idea this was possible. I will look for the post on Arcade Controls.

Thanks
