Any advice for more FPS?

Postby SuperSZ » Sun Sep 25, 2011 6:58 pm

Today I tried Daytona USA 2. It worked at 40 FPS, so I decided to investigate about overclocking. For what I read, they said that my processor could have a nice overclock without any risks: I have a Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 @ 3.00Ghz and they said that I could make it work at 3.6Ghz. The thing is that I couldn't get it to work at that speed because my PC crashed, so I put it at 3.5Ghz and works ok for now. So I tested Daytona USA 2 Power Edition at lowest settings (800x600 resolution) to see how it worked.

It is very playable and it's between 49 and 50 FPS, but I want it to be at 60 FPS (full speed). I even overclocked my video card (a 8800 GS video card) but no FPS improvement.

questions:

1) is my PC fully capable of running the SEGA Model 3 emulator at 60 FPS? . My PC: 2GB of RAM at 800Mhz, Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 overclocked at 3.5Ghz, XFX 8800 GS Alpha Dog Edition. edit: and Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 64 Bits

2) If it is, how do I do it?

p.s: I run the games through Supermodel Loader Version 0.2a (by Groni).

I'm guessing you are running 32bit windows? 64bit will give you a FPS bump.

I get about the same results as you and my CPU is also an E8400 though not overclocked since my motherboard doesn't support it. My GFX card is also a 7600 GT.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate Edition 64 Bits.

that's very strange, with my e8200 at stock speeds, i have 40/50 fps on first track, and almost 60 fps in the advanced one,
wich is your ram? maybe that is bottlenecking your cpu

Does 64-bit version really give a better performance ?

for e8400 or dual core cpu users

AFTER START SUPERMODEL EMU

YOU CAN RUN TASKMANGER in process windows

find supermodel.exe

right-click and select processor affinity
uncheck cpu 0

and

wait few seconds

and recheck cpu 0

return supermodel

it will run at fullspeed....(it worked on MY G850 @ SCUDRACE)

i dunno if it works for you, but for me it can help to boost the fps a lot.

My pc config is Athlon x2 5000+ w/ XFX 9600 Gso, 2GB ram and running win xp sp3, it only gives about 20fps when playing scud race. Since i want to play this game badly i tried to change those settings appear in the supermodel, i noticed that by using the external share file provided by Bart and lower the ppc frequency to around 35-40, the performance is much better (40-50 fps in game). i dunno how it works but it is funny that at first when you entering the game the performance is still slow, but after serveral minutes it will boost up automatically.

You may try this out and see if it works for you. :D

What is "external share file" ?

http://www.supermodel3.com/AdvancedUsage.html#Shaders

i think it works becoz it removed some effect so it requires less processing power, but i am not sure about this, maybe Bart can tell us :D

It removes the spotlight effect. A few games use it, for example the headlights in Le Mans 24 and, if you look very closely, the illumination on the back of the car in Scud Race when it backfires. It's an expensive effect and has to be computed on a per-pixel basis using less than optimal code. On some systems with lower-spec GPUs, the shaders do shave off a big chunk of the performance.

If you peak inside the Supermodel source code, you'll find a file under Src/Graphics/Shaders/ called Fragment_Flat.glsl you can use to get that nostalgic Model 1 feel ;)
