The bad poly in the Akira stage

I'm 90% sure it's one of the black bars used in replay mode.

It looks like its correctly rendered, just it shouldn't be there at all Hopefully that will help narrow down any debugging

Interesting. Thanks for this info! I think the real key is your discovery that the matrices are fubared. I strongly suspect -- purely through intuition and quite possibly incorrectly -- that some sort of frame timing/IRQ issue is to blame here. This will be a tough one to fix and the solution might present itself when looking at something totally different, kind of like how Magical Truck Adventure unexpectedly led me to the VF3 texture fix.

My guess in that level is, that poly shouldn't be there at all. The clue is, there are 3 instances of that poly, when there should be only 2 :p It's probably not the transformation matrix issue. It looks like its just taking the zero position in the scene.
I have a feeling the jacky stage could be similar. Just rendering geometry that shouldn't be there at all. I spent a time looking for where those 6 polys should be in the scene, with the assumption they were missing, but I couldn't find where they should be at all.

I thought that the polys in Jacky's stage had a corrupt or identity transformation matrix? The textures they reference indicate they may be part of the concrete pillars that appear in the stage. If they simply aren't intended to be rendered, the fix would theoretically be easier to identify, but when I last looked at Jacky's stage using Nik's debugger, I saw nothing unusual about any of the culling nodes. I'll have to look into it some more. Interestingly, Fighting Vipers 2 suffers from the exact same bug on at least one stage. Wouldn't be surprised if it's based on VF3's game engine.

In the jacky stage from what I recall, all the polys had the same matrix (which I assumed was bad). But on seconds thoughts if they are all drawn at the origin 0,0,0, the matrix probably just represents the camera position.
It's possible they are missing from the scene, given their absurd size it should be easy to spot ?

The Akira stage, that poly 100% shouldn't be there. There should only ever be 2 instances of the black bars. I'll double check later, just to make sure it is actually the same poly as the 'replay bars', as apposed to some random anamolie, but it sure looks like it.

Hi wanna just say that this in the middle of Jacky stage is not pillars . Pillars texture looks differently . It looks very similar to part of walls of the skyscraper looking at left from the player one . For me it is facade of this skyscraper but without windows . In the middle of stage you dont have them I mean windows . Also please notice that you see this "magic walls" only from one side when camera is looking left side of the ring , when is looking right they disappear f**k this is hard to explain . Maybe this will give a clue , i dont know nothing about all this stuff you are talking about often like transformation poly matrix shading and a lot more sorry guys i only can help this way . Also want say that i am very excited about this screen shot Bart`s made of the Lau`s stage that looks gorgeous.

If you can find out where these polys should be in the scene that would eliminate the possibility that they shouldn't be there at all. I guessed too they were supposed to be on the front of a building, but I didn't notice anything obviously missing. Would be good to have some real arcade or dreamcast? images to compare against.

The Dreamcast version doesn't use accurate to arcade models, especially in regards to the arena. Arcade footage would most definitely be preferred, but the resolution obviously will suffer as a result. I don't know if I'm any fun at parties, as I've never been invited to one. :v

Go to 1:24:09 to see the original footage from model 3 video and also 1:29:09 the quality is not to good but i think you will be not able to find better one .
my speculation :
-maybe this is a reflection of the skyscraper in the glass surface of the floor , but i dont see any in the original footage
-or something underneath the glass floor
I want ask about the dark sky in Aoi stage , and pitch black end of sub way tunel in Sarah stage , bouth of them ( sky in Aoi stage and Sarah subway ) should be white , what happen with that ? Also some fog effect is missing

Another question in the stage avalible only in vs mode i mean the cave after 23 seconds the music and all voices , sound effect such as punching or kicking sound are missing is this emulator problem or rom fault ?
How i can do a snap shot of a frame ?
Also keep in mind that Virtua Fighter 3 is one of four games available for Sega Model 3 step 1.0 ( all games titles : Boat Race GP , Virtua Fighter 3 ,Virtua Fighter 3tb ,Sega Bass Fishing/Get Bass ) so if this games was only for step 1.0 it means that emulator can not be for all games same . Because on the other platform (steps) will be not working or not working properly so maybe for different games and steps the emulator must be redefined. But probably You all know this.
