I can do some "good" runs in Daytona but this prevents me from doing better time records or driving smoothly, I noticed that people whom use Xbox controllers do not have this problem, so my question is: is it possible to calibrate the controls so I can play like that on the keyboard? if not then I might just need to buy a steering wheel or xbox/ps3 controller :(

fefor just get a steering wheel dude. The games were designed to be played that way and you will enjoy them 100X more because of it. The difference in immersion from using a KB or even a controller is night and day. Wheels are relatively cheap these days. Go for a Logitech G29 or the older G27. Or if you can spare a little more in your budget, Fanatec and Thrustmaster makes some good wheels for the price. Of course you can always go insane and go the OSW or Bodnar route

hah, just found this post from many years ago, back then I was just a student and didn't have a job, but now after so long I could finally buy a Logitech G29 wheel and I'm finally able to properly enjoy these games, here's some new gameplay that I recorded recently.

Daytona USA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbGXp5y6DKw

Daytona USA 2 PE: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsKq-nC9JS0

Now I wanna learn how to play Scud Race, while also trying to improve my Daytona skills.

Congratulations I'm getting the wheel buddy! Now that you have one, you're going to finally understand just how incredibly awesome these games were meant to be played with the proper instrument. All you need now is an H pattern shifter and some professional high grade pedals, along with a motion platform to take things over the top! 8-)

Going to check out your videos now. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks!! I have the G29 shifter but I'm terrible with it since it has more than 4 gears and I usually mess up and place the stick on 5th or 6th  so for now I'm just using the buttons on the wheel and its totally playable, maybe in the future I'll try to get an H shifter that will work perfectly with arcade racing games.

Also these are my current PB in Daytona 1 as of now:

beginner: 2'18"62 - aug 2020 (done on kb) (best i've got with the g29 is 2'19"68)
advanced: 3'03"50 - nov 2021 (done with steering wheel)
expert: 3'25"92 - nov 2021 (done with steering wheel)

There's only 1 keyboard record left to beat...

Update: I beat my old beginner record, now my track records as of today are:

beginner: 2'18"60
advanced: 2'58"68 (TA)
expert: 3'22"48 (TA)

I had to learn new techniques and change everything about how I was playing in order to get that time in Advanced course

Its been a month since the last time I posted, since then I managed to learn two more model 3 games, Scud Race and Sega Rally 2.

I ended up struggling with Scud Race more than I ever expected, I managed to beat all courses on manual but I'm still not a fan of how the drifting acceleration and handling overall works on this game :| especially those wheelies that happen after jumping, its so easy to lose control! but oh well its a great game and a SEGA classic, I mostly decided to play this due to nostalgia since I used to play it a lot back in the day on versus mode on the beginner courses.

Edit: I think the reason I didn't love the gameplay is because I wanted it to play exactly like Daytona USA 2, doing drifts just using the shifter and doing 2-4 or 2-3-4

Now for Sega Rally 2, unlike the first Sega Rally, I actually never had the luck to play this in real life, and let me tell ya I fell in love with the game despite not being that much into it at first, I spent the last 3 weeks playing it non stop and I grinded it till I got a time record I'm happy with.

Anyways here's some gameplay:

Scud Race all courses: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEc-tuV9pGM

Sega Rally 2 current PB: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJl-MuQn6lE

I think my maximum potential for SR2 would be 4'06"XX but I think I'm done for now

Good videos! Yeah, Scud Race is a game that cannot be taken lightly and absolutely COMMANDS the utmost respect and focus. I haven't played the game now in about 5 to 6 months but plan on getting back to it soon enough. I can't wait to see just how rusty I've gotten

OK I just checked out the Scud Race vid. Great driving dude. My only complaint is that it's too short. I was hoping for a 3hr vid of you doing the endurance mode

Yeah and it also made me realize my left foot position for the brake was wrong because my ankle hurts from it now lol, I didn't realize this before because I wasn't using the brake as often in other games.

And as you said, its one of those games that won't allow you to take long breaks from it or you'll get hella rusty, though that happens in every game ever for me except for the first Daytona game, its the only one that is hardcoded to my brain

Hahaha no way, but one day if I come back to the game I'll try endurance mode, I used to play that a lot in Daytona 2, it makes you switch the strategy from going fast and doing epic drifts to focusing on not destroying the tires and knowing when to pit stop
