Finally entering the Supermdoel world, and it's amazing

Postby VirtuaHunter » Thu Feb 01, 2018 8:35 am

Hello guys, I'm new here but I follow Supermodel since day one basically.
My old PC could not run Supermodel, but I watched the model 3 emulation progress during the years.

Now I got a new pc for xmas, a 7th gen i5, and I'm finally able to enjoy Supermodel...and it's amazing!

I'm really impressed about the result you achieved, experience Scud Race or Daytona 2 at home but also with improved resolution and widescreen, it's a dream come true.

I hope Supermodel will continue to evolve until it reach perfection.

Thank you!

Welcome! I'm glad you are here.

No matter how much arcade games become less mainstream, there will be people that appreciates it.

I'm sure I speak for Nik, Ian, Harry, the other two original Supermodel team members (Stefano and Ville), when I say that we are excited to see so much enthusiasm about Supermodel :) It's been a labor of love and it's great to see people having as much fun playing around with it as we've had developing it.

Model 3 at home was a chimera since the Sega Saturn days, and even emulation never happened for a very long time (in fact Model 3 games are still the most wanted console portings around Sega communities)
What you achieved with Supermodel is something great for both us fans and for the arcade history preservation.

I know it may be sound silly, but supermodel rekindled my enthusiasm for arcade games, to a level that now I play regularly Daytona 2 at a local arcade and at home ahah :D

You're lucky you can find real Model 3 games nearby. There was a Daytona 2 machine and LA Machineguns in Seattle when I lived there but with horrific monitor burn-in. Star Wars Trilogy is still easy to find. I haven't seen Scud Race since 2012, when I came across one in Santa Cruz (first time I had seen a real one since maybe 1998).

Luckly in Italy it was very easy to find Sega racing games, even now you'll always find at least a Daytona or Sega Rally even in the worst places.
Currently it's easier to find Daytona 2 or Sega Rally 2, maybe due to the fact that SR1 and Daytona1 cabs are all very old and would need more maintenance. Unfortunately in the latest years Scud Race machines disappeared, at least in the few arcades where I live.

There's a place called Barcade (a bar themed like an old arcade, with lots of working retro games) here in New York that has Daytona USA and Gunblade NY at multiple locations. Unfortunately, force feedback has been disabled or is not working on the Gunblade cabs. But if I really need my Daytona fix, I can get there while sipping a pint :)

I second the sentiment expressed here. Love the work that's been put into this emulator, The light gun games from Model 3 were my favourite gun cabs of that era. Not sure why I loved Ocean Hunter so much, but to be able to tip into those waters again is a veritable treat, so thanks ever so to everyone involved.

next on my emulation wish list would the system 23... :D
Sega has made interesting hardware back in those days, the model 1, naomi, and don't forget the all custom hikaru!
