I'm still finding it a bit hit and miss at times, but I think I've sort of got my head around it. Still, not quite enough to actually finish the medium track on the go I Video captured below though. D'oh!

nice work :D
from my experience, if you use manual, you can pass this corner at around 220km/h with 3rd gear, once you drift enough, step 100% to the gas and keep the car slide and simply make a right turn and your car will passthough the coming corner with powerslide, you may refer to the video i posted earlier in this post (i know the quality is bad though)

Thanks Bart and cpmok. Without wanting to sound too much like Yoda, I think the key for me was to unlearn what I'd previously learned in Outrun 2 and getting my head around the fact that once you start to drift in Scud Race, if you keep turning the wheel fully to the right or left you WILL spin out. Once you start to drift you need to correct the steering back to the centre a bit to stop the rear of the car from sliding out (which then in turn causes it to spin out). I've also found that if you get into the drift successfully, but it looks like you're going to power slide too wide and hit the wall, you can still tap the brake whilst you're accelerating and maintain your drift, which stops the car from sliding out quite so wide. It's still a bit trial-and-error at times, but when it works it's very satisfying. I'll have to try and progress up to manual gears soon...

Yeah the drifting in Scud Race is quite tricky. Very OutRun 2-ish in a way but much more delicate and you have really finesse your way around your corners. Trial and error indeed.

well, the drifting in outrun 2 is way easier than scud or daytona usa 2, but how do you translate all that explanation with the arrow keys of the keyboard with scud race?
also your technique has improved a lot since your last video, before you were a drunk driver and now you're approaching schumacher

Thanks. I suspect that trying to drift using the keyboard alone would be very tricky as you're losing the benefit of the analogue controls.

This video shows someone getting first place with the McLarren F1 on the night-time beginner course using what appears to be an analog stick:

Quite impressive! Perfect timing on each turn. And despite using manual transmission, he's not down-shifting to drift, but simply applies the brake.

Impressive, most impressive - he's nailed 1st place before starting the final lap! I always use my age as an excuse for the fact I'm a bit rubbish at games these days (a rather creaky 35), but that particular YouTube user is 6 years older than me, so that's my excuse blown out of the water  .

I've gotten pretty decent at Daytona USA 2. I was able to get 2nd or 3rd place consistently on the Expert and Mixed courses today using the normal car in automatic mode. Ironically, first place on the beginner track is more of a challenge due to all the traffic. I typically play with the hard level car on that course.

First the worst, second the best, as the old saying goes ;)

Also, FWIW, I actually prefer Power Edition over the original Battle on the Edge version. I like the dome-less beginner course better and I can finally put my finger on the reason why. The dome and other large objects in the background lessen the sensation of speed because they appear to move more slowly due to parallax. The newer layout with its fast-moving foreground objects and open sky feels less claustrophobic. The first person engine noise for the black hard-level car sounds much better as well in Power Edition.
