Anti-aliasing issue with AMD GPU

Postby pylone » Thu Jul 18, 2019 1:48 pm

Hi all o/

I am a newcomer here and for my first post, I call for help AMD GPU owners.
As I have just replaced my PC (full AMD setup : Ryzen 7 2700X + RX Vega 64), I am interested again in model 3 emulation after years of pause.
I am pleased to see that many improvements continue to be made, so thanks to the whole team behind this big project !
Even the 1080p 32/9 rendering is prefect <3

However, even if it is not so important at this resolution, forcing the anti-aliasing in the AMD control panel has no effect on the last R775 release.
After some tests, anti-aliasing works fine for 0.2a version (but for this old release, it's the widescreen resolutions that do not work for me – plus some inputs from my G27 wheel).
Does anyone have a solution for this little anti-aliasing issue on AMD configuration ? (I don't know if I am in DirectX, OpenGL or software rendering with the R775 default settings…)

Thanks and I hope that my expression in English is understandable ^^'

You can't force on driver anti-aliasing because everything is rendered to offscreen render targets.
It's possible I could write anti-aliased render path
But given the performance issues AMD currently suffer, might leave it till later.

Why don't you just set a custom resolution in Supermodel? When I play Scud Race or Daytona USA 2 in 1920 x 1080p they look lovely and smooth with no jaggy polygons in sight.

Ok Ian, thanks for the clarification, so it's normal.
But does this mean that all rendering is currently only software? :o

Yes MrThunderwing, no problem with that : I play in 3840 x 1080 and it's great ;)

I'm asking the question because during my series of tests, I first tried the 0.2a version, then the R775 right after. The old one is more buggy, but visually cleaner due to texture filtering and anti-aliasing support with my hardware. So I wanted to know if there is a particular reason for that or if I had incorrectly configured a parameter.

No -- the GPU is still doing the rendering. It's just doing so into intermediate buffers.
