Recently I plugged my Mayflash dolphinbar to play some on rail shooters using my wiimote and my ardistel shotgun accesory.
Playing The Lost World while blasting dinos with an actual shotgun thingy from the hip is a blast.
The original Jurassic Park arcade isn't quite the same, since it's more like a turret, "fill everything with a constant streak of lead" gameplay style, and both Konami's Jurasic Park 3 (which is kinda lame when compared to TLW, to be honest) and Raw Thrills 2015 JP game aren't available on PC. So I was looking for another "House of the Dead but with dinos" kinda game. Dino Stalker for PS2 doesn't quite count because it is based around freedom of movement and it's actually less frustrating to play with a regular controller, so I thought I had run out of options.
Until I found out about Dino Strike for the wii, and boy was I happy. It doesn't have the variety of enemies and situations The Lost World does (no compis or shooting dino poop to avoid being hit by it, LOL), but it's the closest thing to it I've seen, and I can totally see that the creators were not hiding away the fact that they were inspired by JP, instead of choosing more obscure dinosaur species or designs. All the dinos show up in the JP/JW franchise. I mean, even the dilophosauruses are frill necked and spit venom, c'mon! That's the most JP detail imaginable!.
So your character ends up in an island full of dinosaurs (of course) and you have to blast your way through hordes of vicious velociraptors, dilophosauruses, some armoured ankylosauruses like the ones in Jurassic World, and a stubborn and massive T-rex that comes from time to time to ruin your jolly dino shooting day. You have four weapons at your disposal, with varying degrees of ammo you must collect (the pistol ammo is infinite though), and you get health items by shooting at them.
Gameplay is based around trying to achieve kill streaks, encouraging shot accuracy and hi scores. You can also collect dino eggs, and every few of them you get an extra life. Stages have a series of optional objectives based around not wasting ammo, collecting eggs, achieving certain score..., these unlock pages of the diary that informs you on the backstory and lore of the game, which has a plot that, while it won't win any oscars, it decently told and narrated using ellegant illustrations and voiceovers. The ambience is very JP, unlike the hi-tech facilities in Dino Crisis, and the gore and safari hunting aura of other dino games, it has a dereclic, used, jungle like atmosphere to it. (Unlike Sega's games in which you merely tranq the Dinos, the ones in Dino Strike DO bleed, though)
Graphics are very nice for a budget wii game, and it is a blast to play. You can also dual wield with two wiimotes and it can also be played by four simultaneous players, which I'm guessing must be terribly fun. here you have a gameplay video:

What do you think of this game? Do you know of any other games in which you blast dinos? I'd prefer on rail shooters, but I don't think there are more of them. Even getting in the FPS terrain the only similar one I can think of is JP Tresspasser.
