Help me configure inputs please

Postby Sideshowbob » Sun Apr 08, 2012 3:18 pm

Ok, I read the Readme.txt file, and have tried a few different things.

Firstly I tried renaming the keys for gears and VR buttons....No change.

Under the default settings the gear shift changes the VR, but VR does nothing!! (see screen shot of new remapped settings). If I push those buttons on the keyboard the gears & VR work fine

Then I tried deleting the ini file, and running -config-inputs....
X axis mapped fine, Y & Z didn't work, as there was a third stage to complete, which seemed exactly the same as stage 2, and produced an error. Tried remapping VR and Gears....didn't work either.

Please help....i''m so close.

Hardware is a a Sega Scud Racer running all the original pots, and a UHID device from Ultimarc.

Using '-config-inputs' is the way to go (although you shouldn't have had to delete Supermodel.ini and I would recommend beginning with the default one and changing only the settings you need). There are numerous threads here concerning steering wheel devices if you dig back a bit. It's impossible for me to say what could be wrong without knowing the exact error but maybe someone else can share some tips. The '-config-inputs' dialog should be quite easy to use if you follow the instructions exactly. Remember to have the blank window selected when entering inputs (even though directions continue to be printed to the console window). Lastly, if you're using an XBox peripheral, make sure to also add '-input-system=xinput' on the command line.

Screenshots of the problems you are experiencing in the config dialog would be helpful.

Hi Bart,

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly.

Before I even configure the gas/brake (as steering is actually working), I thought I'd reconfigure VR buttons and Gears...any idea why my settings don't work when I manually changed the ini file (in the attached screen shot?).

If I do it through the cmd box, everything seemed to work OK, but once saved nothing was different from the default settings.

Am I doing this right......

once at the config cmd box, down arrow till I get to the VR buttons.
Then I pressed "S"....it said "setting" and I pressed "A", down arrow - VR 2 "S", then I pressed "S", then "D" then "F", then for gears "Q", "W", "E", "R"......then "Q" to save.......am I doing something wrong?

Not using X-Box...I'm using a UHID device from ultimarc...works perfectly for MAME and Model 2 games http://www.u-hid.com/home/index.php

Cheers

Pressing 'q' to quit should save the settings just fine. Are you using a front end? Are you launching Supermodel from the correct directory? If you are launching Supermodel from the command line, make sure to be in the directory that Supermodel.exe is in (and the Config folder with Supermodel.ini should be there as well). If you launch Supermodel from within another directory (for example, by going to Start->Run and then typing something like "C:\Supermodel\Supermodel -config-inputs"), it will run the executable but the current directory will be set elsewhere, so Config/Supermodel.ini won't be found.

Hi Bart,

OK, I re did the config with the cmd box.

Not using a front end, running from the command line.

Start, run, CMD....CD C:\supermodel
supermodel -config-inputs

down arown till shift 1 then "C"(cleared), "S" (setting), "Q"(for gear 1), repeat for other 3 gears. Same process for VR buttons, using "A" "S" "D" &"F" .

then "Q" to save.

it then say something like...settings saved to ini file....error, "no rom selected"

If I then look in the supermodel.ini file everything is saved fine.

I also note that full accelerator down is Brake, and no accelerator is accelerator...brake does nothing

Thanks for your help

Now you're saving the Supermodel.ini file correctly (the ROM error isn't really an error at all -- Supermodel expects a ROM to be specified so it can launch even if you are only configuring inputs).

Your problem sounds familiar although I think Nik is more likely to remember the solution. I don't have a steering wheel to test with. I believe the problem is simply that your accelerator pedal generates an inverted mapping (0 is fully depressed rather than released and vice versa). This can be rectified in one of two ways:

1. You can calibrate the axis using the 'b' option in the configuration dialog. As part of the procedure, it will instruct you to push the axis into the 'on' position, which for you would mean pressing the pedal down all the way.
2. You can append "_INV" to the axis setting in Supermodel.ini to invert it. Please see README.txt for an example of how to use that modifier (search for "_INV" in the text).

As for the brake pedal, I'm not sure about that one. You can play around in the calibration dialog and see if the axis is recognized there. Otherwise, I would recommend searching through this forum for similar problems because I think it has come up before. I don't recall the solution off-hand, though.

Bart,

Good to know I'm doing it correctly.

I just re mapped again.....steering, and gas pedal calibrated fine, but when I went into the supermodel.ini file it shows"none"
but the game still plays as if I hadn't changed any settings.

Also I read somewhere that after calibrating, you have to remap the controls or something....I think I'm missing that stage.

The brake pedal still fails the calibration stage but is recognized (axis "Z") :?

Have now worked out that I need to remap. After calibration was successful, still show NONE(cmd box). So I need to remap I think.....

How do I do that??

I can't find on screen instruction for Ret/c/s/a/r

Pretty sure this is the problem.....thoughts?

I thought you could calibrate and map independently. There's a simple solution: don't exit the configuration utility until you are sure everything is set. After calibrating, go through the controls and check to make sure the mapping is still there before quitting (and saving).

The on-screen instructions are printed at the beginning. Or you could just read README.txt. It's actually a pretty simple system once you read the instructions. Pressing up and down cycles through different controls and then you have the option to clear them, set them, add another input, etc.

If it's recognized as an axis, it should be mapped then, right?

Any way, pretty sure I need to remap, but I can't find how to do that after calibrating...can you quickly run me throught it please Bart?
